Default made custom intake

hey guys i made a custom intake a couple days ago and it sounds sweet. i was tearing it up with my crx w/o the hood on and i guess it could be heard 1/8-1/4 mile down the road. its pretty sweet. i used a kn cone filter, dodge conquest turbo plastic piping and tucked that inside my si piping. it works fine with my battery location and stuff. i used this silver shiny duct tape. it actuallt has real metal in it. it may look ghetto, but i think i gained some hp from it. Any suggestions on how to improve it would be appreciated.

i have a 3" weapon R intake....
i added a cold air extension using a segmental piping from home depot used for dryer ducts..... go ask for dryer piping.... its also 3" and i routed it good into my fender..... i dyno prove it and it gained and not lost any power..

yeah, and one time at band camp, i made a shitty intake too, then i got smart and bought one that was worth a ****. you can't make up for the amount of R&D that goes into a good intake system. just spend the money

the amount of R and D that goes into an intake? has anyone seen an AEM? its usually just mandrel bent tubing with a cone filter! ebay special intakes are JUST AS GOOD 99.9999% of the time, especially if you replace the ebay filter with a good one. i've made a variety of intakes, and i can assure you they all had just about as much R and D. most of the work that goes into big name intakes is making them fit perfectly, or at least close to perfectly, so that people who dont want problems "modifying" their car wont have problems. dont get me wrong, thats a great way to make a product, but usually you just pay for the name when you buy an intake. i've even had my intakes ceramic coated, so they dont absorb heat, or heat taped them. i guess i'm just all about welding up my own stuff, their's really nothing wrong with AEM's, but i cant justify the price AT ALL.

that is funny. come one dude if you dont want to sepend the money to get an intake (isnt really that much) why do you even try to pimp your car? and wouldnt it take up more room in your engine compartment?

hmmm maybe im just weird but i can think of plenty of nicer, and more productive pieces of equipment than some overpriced piece of pipe. its people like you who buy all this little stuff saying its not all that much, but by the time you are all done "pimping your trick *** car out" you could have upraded plenty of better things.

if its free and you think it works.. go for it...

i know that ebay intakes go for like 30 bucks on ebay w/ a decent filter. and i would never spend 120 on any aem intake made w/ the same piping the $30 ebay one is.

a piece of pipe is a piece of pipe, provided you have two pipes, one name brand, one home made, with the exact same diameter and same design of filter. why pay over $100 for a pipe? THAT IS PRETTY RETARDED.

AEM research and development goes like this..."okay, we researched the market, and we will develop a red and blue and silver intake pipe"

the reason why parts for hondas are so high is because stupid ricers will pay almost anyting for some "name brand" part. That is why you have to pay around 5,000 for a 400hp honda while you can build a 400 hp v8 for 1,000.
