ball joint
been trying to get my axles out. so im trying to get the ball joint out and try the ball joint separator and i rip the boot... and still the ball joint is left in place. so i get pissed and just put the castel nut back on a bit and try beating it out. well it came out of there but now that i do have it out the castel nut is just spinning with the screw of the ball joint. what the hell did i just mess up and how can i fix it? thanks.
so basically its not catching any threads, I had this happen to an accord of mine, I was on the freeway and my wheel came off and my car slid on the pavement for about 20 feet and its screwed up the ball joint.. anyhow the way I got it to go on was screw it on very s-l-o-w-l-y... But for future reference, right where the ball joint sits theres a little platfrom for you to hit to brake the ball joint loose if that doesnt work use the pickle for but use something with more weight behind it.. like a big *** hammer or something
no, the castle nut is connected to the ball joint. the ball joint, after being hammered out with the castle nut at the end, is letting the actual screw turn while i try to screw off the castle nut. as if i knocked the ball joint screw out of socket and now is allowed to turn freely with the nut. see what im saying?

there are 2 tricks I know of.... actually you can use them together...
us a jack to lift up the LCA into the ball joint... have a buddy stand on the studs or the hub. This will apply pressure to the ball joint to hopefully hold it in place... In my case, these did not work and I replaced the ball joint... sucked but you got to do what you got to do!

i hear that. how much was it to replace the ball joint?
on another note.. i still have the other ball joint to do. i was talking to my uncle and he said when using the ball joint separator you will most of the time lose the boot (is this true?) and i was wondering if i could get replacements at autozone or what. also do you have to oil the inside or is there some internal mechanism that im just ingonorant to that actually puts the oil/grease inside the boot. and also, he said to hit the hell out of them till eventually you get them separated. he said i was just not hitting it hard enough. is this true? just don't want to mess something up if i don't have to.

you can replace the ball joint yourself... there is a shop near me with a press.. its like $20 for the pair.. but I brought in the knuckles...
get a pitman puller to remove the ball joint.. it goes over the ball joint and you tighten a bolt and it pusher the ball joint out of place...

i borrowed one similar at autozone, except it had three arms taht were adjustable. needless to say gettin the arms in the perfect position made me hate that thing but the one you show looks pre-set. does autozone carry these for rent, or do you know? if so i can take the one i have back and rent that one. thanks.

use the tool andrew listed...........BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grind the point down.........
Install the tool as normal. Tighten one full turn after the tool meets up with the ball joint. Smack the LCA with a hammer. If that isn't enough. add 1/2 turn to the tool. Smacl LCA again and everything will fall apart.

that happen to me..so what i did is got my impact gun and hit a couple of times..and it works..my balljoint still spins but i guess the impact gun spins the nut faster to get it off/on
ah, my friend has an impact gun. we will have to try this. ill also just go get that exact tool for the other balljoint. hopefully that one will go a bit smoother.
