grinding into 3rd and 5th
i just recentley bought a 00 ITR and when i was driving it home i realized that going into 3rd and 5th gear it will grind slightly. Doesn't matter how easy/hard or slow/fast i do it ,, it will always happen and is more apparent when coming out of v-tec. I'm thinking it might be synchros but i would like some opinions being this my first acura..Thanks in advance
sounds like a synchro problem.. this is a reoccuring problem in honda trannys due to the weak materials used in building them ... You should get the trany rebuilt. Changing the tranny oil will help smooth out the shifting as well. Sad that the previous owner failed to mention it ... take it back and get a few more bucks out of him!
Its definitely the synchros, and if its doing it any any speed, chances are the gear is messed up too, so you are a looking at a synchro + gear replacement.
try some GM Synchromesh if possible. It wont fix the problem if the synchros or gears are worn, but it can help to make things not as rough until you can get it fixed. Search this web board for "sychromesh" and read some of the posts.
Yeah my 2nd to 3rd doesn't GRIND but makes a funny sound if I shift past 4000.. But if I do it REALLY fast some times it doesn't make that sound.. and if I redline 1st and 2nd and go to 5th it'll make that funny sound.. just got the gm syncromesh friction modified just gotta put that ***** in.. hopefully it works for me.. and for you! Yeah go back to that dude and be like I gotta replace this stuff give me some cashola.
