what headgasket to choose?
i need a new headgasket but don't know what to choose from....spoon mugen toda??? any expierences at all? what much will my compression raise if i go with a 2-layer or even 1 layer? my compression now is about 11.1
Toda will not raise compression, so you're choice is basically between Spoon and Mugen. Both will provide approximately the same bump in compression, although I've heard more positive feedback regarding the Mugen, at least as far as sealing is concerned. We installed one on my brother's car and have had no problems at all. You'd probably end up with somewhere around 11.3:1 with the Mugen gasket.
a thinner headgasket is not a good way to raise compression IMHO. If a thinner headgasket would work, Honda would've used it from factory because that would be cheaper, and allow them to use lighter pistons.
There has to be a serious draw back so that they wouldn't do it from factory, and that draw back has to be sealing issues.

I, and many other individuals, can attest to the lack of sealing issues when using a properly-installed Mugen gasket. The Mugen gasket is not an OEM Honda gasket with a layer removed (which have been known to leak). I would venture to say that, due to its design, Mugen's gasket is more expensive to manufacture than the OEM piece and that is Honda's reason for not using something similar. The same can be said about any number of after-market parts that function better than their OEM counterparts.
