my honda civic ran hot today. the guage was pegged all the way up to the top. it was starting to rattle from the engine, so i shut it off and let it cool. when i went back to get it, it started up and ran fine. i didnt see water in the oil, and as far as i can tell it isnt smoking. do you think it will be ok? what was that rattling noise? any help is appreciated.

yes, i think it was low on water. i am wondering if it will be ok or if i did some serious damage to it.
