stop oil vapors from collecting in your intake manifold, only really needed if you run a turbo

Is this the thing that kind of hangs from the intake tube and is kind of a "U"/Loop kind of a thing. I was thinking about replacing that wih a breather filter. Would that be a bad idea? Will it increase the intake sound a little maybe?
