setting number 1 at tdc with a broken timing belt
There is an arrow with up written on each cam pulley when viewed from the driver's side. TDC of number 1 cylinder will be both these arrows pointing up. Number 1 cylinder at TDC at the crank, line up the line on the crank pulley with the triangle on the oil pump. The keyway on the crank will be very close to straight up. Use a strap wrench to turn, take out the sprak plugs to make it easier to turn the crank.
First, move the crank away from TDC so NONE of the pistons are up at the top. Now you can spin the cams without hitting valves & pistons. After you line up the cams, then put the crank at TDC.
