Canadian Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Pics?
Does anyone have pics of the OEM canadian Daytime Running Light setup?
Relay, and all the assorted accessories? There are two fuses under the driver side dash, 1 for the relay and 1 for the high beams.

are you looking for the circuit diagram or the picture of the car?
it's just a matter of remove those 2 fuses when I took out the DRL. Will let you know exactly which one when I get home tonight.
that's how it looks with DSL (personally, I don't like it at all...)

I believe that a resistors inline (series) w/ the high-beams are used for this set-up... I vaguly remember the pic in the Helm's Electrical guide I used to have.
I'm looking for both the circuit diagram AND hardware.
Not looking to remove the DRL but actually looking to see how they are hooked up and possibly installing them.
I like how it utilizes the high beam at a lower wattage.

Run your low beams whenever the car is on? That's what I always did. Free > cost.
Then again, I have been drooling over E-code lenses with city lights for the Pig

no pix here... but it is over near the hood prop.

I started with DRL. I tried to improve it by putting superwhites in there -- looks better, but I have now disabled the DRL and run with my parking lights around town for no popo hassles.
I believe, DRL is a Canadian requirement for any cars newer than 1987.

Fair enough
Best feature on the Pig is the fact that the lights turn off when you turn the car off, so you can leave the switch on all the time. I've only managed to kill the wagon's battery twice by forgetting that the old one doesn't do that

There was a calculation that the US Government made in what it would cost to have all the new cars come equipped with DRL. The ammount of extra fuel burned and the resulting pollution outweighed the benefits.

How does DRL burn fuel?
Many cars made today are equiped with automatic DRL standard.

WHAT? Lights draw power from the battery... last time I checked I didn't get worse gas mileage at night whilst my head lights were on. I'm cornfused at this point.

then why did the gov't mandate that all cars produced AFTER 2005 must have DRL?
i think you're mistaken. or an idiot.

I would like to know how much of tax payer's money did this "calculation" cost and exactly who did it.
It TOTALLY does not make ANY sense.... esp w/ all the rebates on SUVs n' all.... huhu.
:sigh: st00pid g'ment!!

E-code = Volvospeak for Euro headlight lenses. They're clear (no diffuser patterns).
City lights = another European version of DRL's. Instead of powering the high beams, there's a separate small bulb in the headlight housing.

Euro code.
'City lights' are 15w or 25w bulbs in the headlamps of certain autos in Europe that come on with the parking lights for use in the well lit city/parking decks to prevent oncoming drivers from getting blinded.

The energy has to come from somewhere, doesn't it? Your battery doesn't have infinite energy. The mileage is not noticeable, because it's a very small amount of energy. But if you multiply it with 100 million cars, that's a different story.
However, other drivers can see you further away when driving with lights on.

I wouldn't bother reconnecting them. The first thing I did when I got my car was disconnect the DRLs, and I've never been pulled over for it. I've been pulled over for "fits the description" a couple of times in Sarsborough, but that's it. It looks a lot better to run with either no DRLs or at least with the parking lights on. If I cared and had the time and effort I would have installed a relay to shut off the lights with the ignition.
Actually, that was the cool thing with my dad's 535i. The full lights turn on and off with the ignition, but when you put the switch to the parking light, the headlights turn off and only the parking lights are on, regardless of whether the car's on or off. That was it actually is legal, since the parking lights are supposed to work with the kah off.
My mother's old Jetta turned off the headlights with the ignition, but always left the parking lights on for the same reason. It was cool because she would have to leave the lights on for a really really long time to deplete the battery.
I forget what my whole point was...
