Default cap and rotor

I want to replace my cap and rotor, but was just wondering if its just a matter of unhookin the old one and installing the new one or is there anything else involved? I just don't want to screw up my timing or anything like that.

Also, does anyone know the gap for a stock h23? changin plugs too

Ya its pretty straight forward. You unscrew the three screws that hold the distributor cap in place. Then you'll see the rotor; which is held in with 1 screw. If you dont see the screw keep turning the engine until its accessible. Make sure that the screwdriver you use fits the rotor screw very nice and snug, cause its a bitch to get out. I usually order an extra rotor screw because by the time I take it out, the screw-head is all messed up.

Some people replace the screw with a 10mm bolt, which will be easier for you to remove the next time around.

good luck...

Just keep giving the engine really quick cranks until you see the screw. If you have an impact driver I'd use that - I tried a screwdriver and totally killed it. Now I gotta get a screw extractor Anyone know what size screw it is - Helms didn't say

The screw is available from your Honda dealer for $1.80. The size will be in the parts book. DO NOT use an Impact driver-it will damage other parts in the end. Is the project simple otherwise-sure.

When i changed my rotor i didn't know it had a screw, took me a while to notice i had to take the screw off. But as stated above, just give some quick crancks to get to it. And everything is pretty much straight foward.

have the right screw driver, if you do, you can do this in less then 10 mins.

have the right screw driver instead of stripping the screw being a lazy *** by using the wrong screw driver. Also take the distributor off which is alot easier then cranking the engine for that screw to become lined up.

my suggestion to make things easy. get a black marker and just draw a line that indicates TDC or where ever you had it so that you can put it on the same way you took it off. and also make shure you line up the distributor when the EX cam . remember one side of lobe is fatter then the other.

well, on my H23 it was rusted or something; it was in there GOOD!

The screw stripped out and I couldn't get it out, but I figured out I didn't really need a new one, so I didn't sweat it.
