I'm having a problem with my ysr. right when I get on the throttle it lags bad till it gets on the higher rpms it just takes off nice. I tried playing around with the clip setting and I couldn't get it right so I left it like it was before and it was decent. what could it be? full throttle is fine though. throttle response isn't all there either in the low rpm range.
Call Team Calamari. Tell them your problem and they'll tell you things to check. They're great. http://www.teamcalamari.com

I'm still learning myself. its weird though cause my bike is pretty stock except for the exhaust and airbox and reeds. full throttle is fine as long as I'm in the high rpms but low end just lags. throttle response isn't there. The only thing is I didn't mix it the oil to 40:1. I did it this time to 36:1.

Take the carb off and clean it with compressed air. Remove the main jet and make sure no crud lies within. Next reset the needle back to its std position (2 from bottom?)
make sure the slide is free and there is no pick up anywhere. I dont know if its piston ported or has reeds so if it has a reed block then check that they havent failed. Lastly make sure the filter is clean and is jetted to suit. If you are running stock then it should be OK, but get the specs anyway. One last thing is to check the tank itself for corrosion.
Poor pickup could also be a cracked or poor exhaust seal or any kind of ignition problem.

the needle is different from stock and was told to keep it anywhere near the middle. also I didn't know there was small pin holes in the pilot jet that have to be cleaned with a piece of wire. Ima check all this when I get home. I just haven't had time to mess with it.
cover one end if the jet with your finger and spray carb cleaner into the jet. The cleaner should come out of the side holes if not, then use a wire to clean each hole
Sounds like your pilot jet is too big.
Speaking of YSRs, I have my old one for sale.
It's a 1987, no title
Racing tires on steel wheels
1983 YZ 80 engine with 10 hours on it, port and polish, boysen reeds, .75mm overbore, K&N, GSXR tail/YSR front and lowers/airtech fender. I have $200 in the motor, will sell the whole bike for $400 plus shipping.

caliper bolts, wheel spacers, a few little odds and ends. you couldn't take it out to the street right this minute. basically i'm just trying to get my money out of it. if you figure up the motor (200 for parts alone), body (200), TT90 tires, and frame, I'd say anyone who buys it is getting a deal. I just can't have it up here at my condo. They won't even let me keep my VT750CD inside the garage, much less a cafe racer.

okay I had time to tinker with it today. as per someones advice I thru a new exhaust gasket and changed the gear oil. the gear was because I accidently left the gas petcock on and it leaked onto the floor. someone told that maybe some fuel might have gone into the gearbox. man what a difference. if I rev it out too much its wheely city. but its not as crisp as I would want it. but its 50 times better then before. At part throttle it almost sounds like a machine gun sound. Could it be too lean at part throttle?

Pull your plugs, my bet is that it is running rich. Often jetting requires adjusting the mixture screw otherwise low performance is poor. Also, what kind of air filter do you have and exhaust?
That's pretty much the issue with jetting a bike, you trade the low speed performance for high end. Getting it to run correctly on the street requires lots o' tuning.
Cheers,
Roy
