Default CRVTECH OR LSVTECH

Hey I am about to spend lots of money to build me a motor for my 88 DX hatch, I was thinking about the LSVTECH but I heard the CRVTECH had more power so I want to get some input on which setup to run...I want to stay all motor and what kind of pistons can I use for each setup?

none, both setup are a bisssatch! i did a lsvtec, its not fun, waste of money, but maybe i did it all wrong i duno, im not a certified mechanic unlike a lot of these guys on the forum...but yeah if u gonna do either, goto the shop and do it! crvtec is way more powerful....but if i were u and going to spend that much money, might as well go LSTURBO.... or gsr supercharge? somthing along that line....but hey, its ur money u wanna burn...good luck man, make sure u have a lot of motor oil to waste too....

So you have just enough money for the swap ? Meaning your not gonna be building it up or anything like that ? Then be prepared to make a topic in the future saying ls/vtec sucks because yours blew up for some odd reason. They both can be done but both take money to build them up right. Do it right the first time so your not kicking yourself in the *** in the long run. It sounds like you don't have a lot of experience yet, so I would stick with an engine that can be dropped right in, like a zc, b16, or b18.

yeah a b16 is easy to drop in, and plus u will learn a lot, and its fast too and a lot of parts for it, go with a b16 then....

If i was you i would spend the money on a b16 or b18. The main problem with ls or b20 vtec conversions is that they are extremely under-oiled. Like the others posted...most blow up pretty quick unless you do some serious building.

They are fine if you use a three stage dry sump oil pump and oil squirters, one pump for the head, one for the squirters and one for a pickup.

if this is the first time that you are doing this, and you want to get it done right the first time, good luck. its really hard to get everything running right the first time around. im sure its been done before, but not many times for first timers. and you say that you arent gonna have a shop build it for you and you say that you are gonna build it first?? do you mean like sleeves, pistons, rods, crank, bearings, valves, retainers, springs, cams and the rest?? cause if youve never done this before, its gonna be really hard.

what do you mean my under-oiled? how do you get rid of under-oiling by serious building? I have two ls/vtecs and i know a bunch of people running them. if they are put together right, then there shouldnt be a problem.

Where did you hear about this cause I have never heard of this before. and also the ls and b20's dont have oil squirters.

LS/VTEC isn't that bad. My brother had his 92 hatch tuned this weekend, and hit 400 whp on pump gas, at 12-14 psi (I didn't happen to find out how much boost he was running, but he had told me before, he was going with 12 psi).

CRVTEC is the one setup I haven't found to much info about. I'm curious what kind of numbers a CRX would put out with a CRVTEC setup..

I have done alot of research on crvtec, and the b20 engine was a less then perfect rod to stroke ratio, however if you us the crank off of a gsr engine it will help rectify that issue. It seems to me that if you use a better quality oil like synthetic with a crank scraper it would solve some of your under lubrication problems (if there are any to begin with) Also you need to figure out install an pvc valve. I know of many people who have done the ls/vtec and crvtec and the say it is way faster than any gsr engine and alot cheaper.

Can't do the stuff yourself without tools
I mean the good tools-Snap-On or MAC.
If you didn't account for those expenses, then you're out proly $500 to $1000.
Get the good stuff-it matters!!!
Cherry Picker, Nice Torque Wrench (SNAP-ON), Quality set of hand tools. Quality Floor jack (it ain't fun using the stock tire jack yo!) and jack stands, Airtools if you can afford them, and A PLACE TO PUT ALL THIS STUFF!!! Haven't come across anyone who's done a swap out on the STREET, but i know it happens.
Gotta find some reputable machine shops that can do the stuff you can't do at home. A muffler shop for anything that needs welding. And a speed shop you can ask all the how do i.'s..hom much do i hafta's...where do i find's...u need to.
