Default PART 2: 35miles on the new turbo setup and the motor blew...(found out why)

Well I decided to drop the pan yesturday to see just exactly why I suddenly had no oil pressure (had great pressure at start up). I took it out and didn't realize that the pressure was so low until #3 started Knocking and 15seconds later she pooped out the front of the block.

Well if any of you remember, I first took the car out after the install only to blow the headgasket. Because the ZC uses the stock crappy carbon gasket some of the material found its way into the oil passages and into the pan. I replaced the gasket, and flushed the engine with 2 oil changes (apparently that still wasn't enough)....

The oil pickup is completely clogged with little bits of carbon gasket except maybe a 1/2 cm^2.

Only if I would have known that it was clogged... .

Shitting bricks right now. . . My head gasket crapped out shortly after the new motor went in . . . havent fixed it yet. . . but it loses oil pressure (obviously with no H.G.) but I used an old oil pick up. How much do those guys cost new ? Sorry bout the engine man

Well, if the screen is still in place, you can just flush it out and reuse it with a new oil pump gasket.

Good luck with yours man! If the pressure gets really low DON'T DRIVE IT. Unfortunetly mine didn't give me much of a warning before it blew. I would pull the pan and have a look.

well I've had plans to build it ever since I even conceived of building this turbo setup.

My other ZC will be getting built this fall/winter.

What it will consist of:

GE sleeved block (thanks Liam!)
78mm JE (1.7L)
Crower rods
ACL bearings
new pumps, seals, gaskets, ext..
Endyn ported/reworked head
SS valves

And most importantly...
Either a SCE copper headgasket, or a custom MSL peice.

I'm hoping for around 400hp.

Yup! I'm very releived to confirm that it wasn't something that I missed when re-installing the head.

Some dumbass was bashing on me for not "knowing about cars" in my other post.

Well I'm gonna flush it out and see what happens. I would replace the oil pump, but it only has about 1000 miles on it so we'll see. Damn I need a FP gauge ! Good luck with the new build man.

or even just... don't drive your car with low/no oil pressure.

Sorry man, best of luck on your new project.

For the record... I too am a victim of the "Maybe it's just a faulty sender... I mean the oil pressure gauge & the stock oil pressure sender are both connected the same way, so it must be electrical. I mean, there's no way I can have 0 oil pressure. Let's take it down the block."
Pull back into the driveway. Loud knocking coming from my motor....
I look to my friend in the passanger seat... "I'm a total idiot, huh?"

Heh, but luckily a rod wasn't thrown out of my block, so it was fixable.

Thanks...while that is true...

I didn't show low oil pressure until it was too late. I haven't been conditioned to pull over no matter what the cost when the oil light flashs on. My natural state was...to think "WTF?....wiring?...leaking?....what could be leaking? everything was tight?....I put enough oil in...????.....and keep driving...then it was too late".

Sorry to hear about you new built motor acting up. I was going to show a friend your build-up pics and found this thread . Hopefully they make a metal headgasket for that block. Now you know what not to use. Your next motor will do good I believe.

Haha...right on! It's always cool to hear that my work has affected at least someone out there!

However, this wasn't the built motor that blew...Just the old stock ZC that I was running the T-25 setup on...so It's not really a huge $ set back...just a time, and esteem set back...

Oh, I didn't know that. Cool, the built motor will destroy the stocker!
Will you be done late winter, perhaps early spring (same thing)?

well I'm actually not too sure when it will be done...

Currently I'm working with LoveFab to start retailing turbo manifolds (which takes a lot of money to get going)...so it's all up in the air.

It will be done no later than next summer!
