Its usually not that easy.
However you DO NOT have to take out the motor . Just pop out the driver side axle and ta dah!!

dude, some of these guys will proly disagree w/ me, but the easiest way for me is out the top. Take off the (2) 10mm nuts holding the master cylinder to the brake booster. Carfuly have someone pull it out of the wayy while you pull the alt. out

Just dont get crazy and bend the lines at a 90 degree angle or something

I did mine 3 times already this week (damn Autozone rebuilt alternators .

It should take you 15 min to get it out and the other back in.

edit:DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS A 1st GEN. MY BAD:

I changed mine a week ago, I just took out the brake master cylinder and my sway bar and it came out and went back in easy as pie, took less than an hour

i put mine in through the front, like where the engine pulley is, but i had to take off the pulley and take off the lower bracket on the alternator mounts, i had a hard time getting it in there but after alittle wiggling i got it

That's how I changed mine out a couple of weeks ago. I just took the master cylinder off (very carefully, to be sure not to damage it and have to get a new one), and the alternator just came right out. I popped the new alt. in, put the old MC back on, bled the brakes, and everything was good again.
