Default How to launch your S2000

I went to the track the other week for the first time and came across a problem when launching my s2000. No matter what RPM i drop the clutch at, the rpm will bog down for a second and then start to raise. Even on the street from a stand still i would try this and notice it does this everytime. Is there a traction control on the S2000, and if so can it be taken off by a fuse? If not what is the best way that you guys have come accross to launch it?

There is no defeatable traction control in the S2000s.

Not sure why you are having issues "burning out" in your S......

I usually tach it up to 4500 then let off the clutch real fast and I have no problems. That is during cold rubber but when they are already hot I launch way higher.

there is no traction control in this car. the traction problem and gas problem you are experiencing is between the seat and the steering wheel.

here's the best way to launch it: 7500rpm clutch drop! yeup, that's the way to do it. but please, don't come back crying when your entire diff needs to be replaced.

the sweet spot seems to be at 5200, but this will depend on tire condition. but for a new set of tire 5200 seem to be it

Well this is known as bogging. This is a VTEC car you need to launch high 5500-6000rpm is optimum for these cars on street tires, drag radial 7000-8000rpm, full slicks 8300 and higher and bye bye clutch. there is no traction control and no fuse you can take out to magically make you a better driver, Befor asking questions like that assess your own driving skill.

It's gonna depend on your tires. If you're bogging go higher, if you're burning go lower. On the stock s-02's 5-6k is normally pretty good depending on the wear.

My friend used to dump his S2000 at 7 or 8k inorder to break the rear wheels loose at the track. He managed a best of 14.0 on a stock S2000.

personally, i can't imagine doing any sort of high rpm drop (and cook the tires).
i don't know about everyone else, but everytime I tear up the tires, I smell money burning (well, the tires too).
8k of daily driving and tire replacement gets old pretty quick (good friend's wife went with S-03's and didn't get 10k either).
oh well, the price to pay for fun

If you want your car to last, don't dump the clutch, don't speed shift, don't launch the car. The drivetrain cannot handle shock well. If you want to launch, at least load the powertrain to minimize shock. There is a weak clutch in this car from the factory for a reason.

What reason is that?

how much is it to get strong diff.? or whatever else is needed for the car to not fall apart of launch? meaning the problem the s2k has with launching.

go here.... http://www.ricks2k.com/products/Comptechdiff.php

while u ar at it get an upgraded final drive (ricks 4.56 will do nicely) and pressure plate.. i def would not use the s2k to drag race and luanch the car at high rpms..the clutch i feel is very weak and cant take the abuse of high rpm launch all the time..plus its so damn expensive to buy new parts..

if i were to get that diff. reinforcement thing, won't it be ok to launch the car often? and what about the 4.77 final drive? or no? by the way, you said the clutch is weak, so wouldn't that be when i get a stronger clutch. it wouldn't be weak anymore would it. also, do ppl change the final drive because the gears are long on the s2k? someone said 1st gears ends around 50mph? and what is the 0-60 on the car? 5.5? if i were to change the final drive would it improve my 1/4 and 0-60 as well as lower speed at 1st gear?

When I ran my car at the track, I was launching between 7-7.2k and slipping the clutch hard to keep it in vtec. I ran a 13.7 with that technique.

Try whatever works best for you.

I have read on s2ki some people do launch at high rpms and the clutch does not seem to be a problem and holds up.

There are people with stock clutches with superchargers. It really depends on how you drive though.

what ever happened to feathering the clutch i think thats is his biggest problem and why he is bogging . take it to like 4500-5000 and slowly let out the clutch and feel the the car and adjust clutch and gas so the you are constintly accelerating
