Default ? Auto vs Manual ?

Ok you think a auto 5th gen racing a Manual 5th gen the manual would win right. wrong . this suprised the F!@# outa me.

1-2001 white base model, AEM CAI, Tanabe racing medallion cat-back, and Apexi
vtec controller. we start from a 20 mph roll and hit it on three honks. I
imeadiately pull a car lenght. we stop at just over 100 and I had about a car and
a half on him.

2-2000 white sh with atleast exaust and racing hart cp -35's. we start from 70 and
take it to about top speed. we are neck and neck till about 100 then I pull about
a half a car on him and thats were it ends up.

So what do you guys think? It blew my mind.

starting from a roll is lame. just degrades the importance of driver skill that is involved with the lauch.

that just makes it more about the cars and not the drivers.

Starting from a roll pretty much negates the advantage of the 5-spd over the SS - outside of the start, they are very evenly matched cars.

You both are correct. I think there is a place for both types.

you think they are well matched even with the difference in gear ratios. The funny thing is that both of those ludes have 10 more horsepower than me stock.

Back in 99 a good many of us w/ G5s would go to the strip regularly; w/ the exception of one car, the auto cars were pretty close timewise if you discount the first 330' - as in the time it took to get from 330 to the 1/8th and the 1/8th to 1000'. Maybe you have an unusually strong example too - there is variance from one car to another.

Thanks for the info. I was VERY reluctant to race the first one because I had never ran another 5th gen before. But I couldn't resist. Glad to know I ain't slow. Raced several 4th gen SI and never had any problems but never a 5th. I am now undefeated when it comes to racing other preludes.

My 2000 SS is not bad once I get going, but it does have the auto lag when starting off.

If you are going to race the same car that you already have, then do it from a dead stop.
