OT: ITR owners with an Insight?
I know Ryan has one (ok, so he's not an ITR owner yet.) Anyone else drive it on a regular basis?
I'm selling my beater '92 Si to my cousin. I debating if getting a brand new Insight is justifiable. Is this a good daily driver? What's not to like about them? I mean they even have a custom turbo charger for these buggers.

I test drove a Civic 4dr hybrid yesterday. It actually drive surprisingly good. But, I can't justify spending ~$20k on a hybrid that only gets ~40mpg.
My '92 Si already does that. And, a VX can get close to ~47mph. (And, old school CRX HF does pretty well too.)

jeez dude you're considering shelling out 20k for a new insight? I'd just grab a civic hx if you're looking for economy, you can get one for less than half the price of a new insight (im talking about a used one) and it will be faster and gets great fuel economy. At this point in time the extra cost of buying a hybrid car outweigh the savings of fuel economy. Also I'd be afraid of running into some kind of problem with the engine/electric motor, no ones familiar with it and it's more complicated than a normal engine. Your decision though. Good luck with whatever you decide
Sean, I drove Ryan's insight. They haul ***! Seriously though, it was my first time seeing the inside of it and then driving it. It's a great car, but I still felt gay in it.

I drove a '03 Prius last night. It's ghetto compared to Civic Hybrid. Maybe the '04 will be better. I dunno, I never like Toyota products (except trucks)... they are tuned for comfort over handling.

That's worth some money to some people.

Virginia seems posed to eliminate this loophole for hybrids since they are not really considered by the State to be true alternative fuel vehicles.

Neither of these are considered "electric" cars.
That's why the're called hybrids .
Electric vehicles need to be plugged in to be recharged, and even GM's EV1 has been recalled and is no longer for sale.

For the price of an Insight you can get a slightly used WRX.
Hmm... which would I take? Lemme think...
As far as Insight (and other Hybrid) drivers, deep down inside I believe, that most of them are just trying to make more of a political statement of how enviorment friendly/conscious they are.
My advise.. for a daily driver you wanna spend less than $10k (unless u have $$ coming out u 455) and get something roomy, comfortable, safe and economical... and I don't think you're married to the Honda brand, are you?
$20,000 buy a lot of car, think about it again.
-K, who does not drive the M5 daily.

I really like the Insight too. However, I think I would take that panel off that covers the rear wheel. The gain in looks would be worth the ~1mpg youd probably lose.
One of my coworkers has a Civic Hybrid, man that is too cool! It drives great, is very smooth/quiet (his is a CVT). He usually gets 42-45mpg even in stop and go Atlanta rush hour.

I'm not making a political statement. I just want a new car that gets awesome mileage. And, it sounds like Insights are actually fun to drive. (good handling for what it is). I mean it only weighs ~2,000 lbs and once you get it up to speed (0-60 in ~10sec), then it does its job.
If you buy an Insight or Civic Hybrid, you do get up to $2,000 tax break.
But, that's not why I'm looking into one. I just want something that get 60mpg (some people get 70mpg, or 700+ mptank
),new and gets me from point A to point B. I can always take out the weekend driver, if I have an urge to drive fast.

p.s. For $20k, I would never buy a regular WRX. I'd rather buy another R.

Sean - sounds like you know what you want, so just get it.
If you're going w/ the hybrids, IMO, you should still would still go w/ the Civic as it offers room for 4/5 people and has a good size trunk.
Even tho the Insight my handle like a CRX, it also has as much room... how important is that to you?
...and for daily rush-hour driving, you might wanna consider an auto tranmission, it's hardly going to make a slow car slower. Again, my opinion.

Never said they are "electric cars". I just said electric owns. I know they are hybrids.

have you looked into the VW urbo diesels? I have herd that they get really good gas milage, they dont look too bad and they are tuned for sport w/ a little added comfort. I was looking at a golf a while back and realy like it.
----just another for you to think about

I'm a big fan of the insight but I never driven one.
I've sat in the Civic Hybrid a few times ('03), and it was awesome. The gauges were well layed out. Very quiet and you wouldn't even know it was a hybrid if it weren't for the charging gauges. Very roomy and comfy
