Default Type R versus B16a head with R Cams. How much of a difference?

I am currently piecing a motor together. I have a ITR short block with CTR pistons.

Now for the head. I know that the Type R head is better, but I have found a great deal on a complete B16a2 ('00 Civic Si) head. I was thinking about putting ITR cams in the B16a2 head and calling it a day.

Would their be a power difference or not on the following?

-Stock Complete ITR head
vs.
-Stock B16a2 with Type R cams

Thanks in advance...

what kind of a great deal is a good deal. If its less than $200 you might as well go with the type r, otherwise definitely hit up some Si action

the valvesprings and retainers AND valvejob on an ITR head alone are worth the money it will take you to get an ITR head. no joke.

you will see a minor difference in powwer with ITR cams between those two heads but if you plan on going to bigger cams, even skunk2 stage 1's, you will want if not require at LEAST an upgrade on the B16A2 head to ITR valvesprings and retainers, and the ITR head valvejob will flow better still.

Thanks for all the quick responses...

I am actually looking at using Toda B or JUN III's but I just wanted to get an idea of the actual differences.

I guess I should just hold off for a Type R head...

try and find someone who works at a dealership. A new ITR head sub assembly is actually fairly cheap (all things considered)

basically the two heads are one and the same. the only difference is that honda did some minor port/polish to the itr head and slapped on some better cams/valve train. (and a better intake manifold) of course the itr head is obviously better, specially since you're getting bigger cams. imo, you should just save up for the itr head, that way you'll be able to use those big cams to their full potential. also bump up your compression a bit by getting a thinner head gasket. good luck with your build

Thanks for all the input guys...

I had a stock JDM ITR motor swap before but now I am building a new motor from scratch. I was just seeing what my options are...
