Avrg. Amount of hours it takes to tune hondata
Well im Looking into buying hondata. But I was wondering what was the average amount of time it took for a good tuner (trackmasters,Importbuilders ect..) to tune your hondata. Or if you can give me an estimate. I have a B18c1 w/ 85mm bore w/89mm crank, 11:8:1 compression. Ef-1 valvetrain m24 cams, P&P head, with 440cc injectors, fpr, fuel rail ect... How much time would it appro. take to tune this setup good. The only reason I ask is because if it take 8 hours at $100+ an hour I cant afford that. Or If your not sure what is your setup and how long did it take them to get it tuned good? Thanks
Thank you gentlemen
Every tuner is different, but generally a full tune up on a car should take somewhere between 2 and 3 hours.
This should include full tuning of all fuel and timing maps at both _full throttle_ and _part throttle_. Some places do very little on the latter, others will take your car and street tune. This is time intensive, but necessary if you want the best overall performance (not too important for a drag car though). Tuning should also include setting the base timing, adjusting cam gears and ensuring the fuel pressure is sufficient. All tuning should be done with a wideband as well.
Most places will charge you $150/hr give or take for engine management tuning. I happen to charge $140/hr, but that may be going up...
Hope that helps!

CAT when you do your tuning you do for full and part throttle correct? like most people out there when i get tuned, i want to make sure its tuned for daily driving conditions because thats how i drive it most of the time. and on top of that how low will you go in the rev range? 1500 rpm, 2000, 2500?
No man. It generally only takes roughly 2-3 hours to tune Hondata. Even with a "not so great base map". You'll be fine. If someone does quote you 8hrs. I'd take it somewehre else. Heck evne partial throttle tuning probably wouldnt' take that long.

Well...when I went to Church Automotive (call him to confirm this) Shawn has an hourly rate, but it caps out at 3 hours so if it takes longer than 3 hours it is a flat rate of $375 or so...but call to be sure. Either way, you can be confident that it will be done right.
Yes, I always do part throttle unless someone asks me not too (for $$$ reasons). Usually I'll start at about 2000 rpm and work up to just past the VTEC transition (again, varies - cars with very low VTEC points will require part throttle tuning well past VTEC).
Fortunately, with the Dynapack we can do all sorts of load simulations, so it isn't necessary to do street tuning for most customers and this saves time and hassles.
