D17a2
It was a SOHC vtec 1.7 litre found in 00+ Civic Ex's and 1.7 EL's
Its the biggest of the D-series, and bigger is better.

what are you gonna be doing with it? autox, drag, turbo, all motor or what? more details will be more helpful.

I've seen D17s. But they have returnless fuel systems, which causes a problem for some applications.

I don't know much more about them, they look like they have coil packs instead of plugs...

i beg to differ... D16y8 would be better, like the z6 but better intake manifold design... the a2 has a lame intake manifold *top intake style*...and the a2 does have ignition pack, no distributor.

a d16y8 for all motor? Yes the y8 head does have smaller chambers and putting 88-89 integ pistons in the bottom end would increase the comp by a huge margin, but good luck trying to make that y8 head flow. Non-vtec is the way to go, less weight in the vavletrain, put in a big cam and you can also get those heads to flow pretty good. If you want vtec go with the z6 head and have the chambers welded. Just a few thoughts.

I'm going to have to say the D16a1/ZC is the best D series motor out of the bunch. It dosen't have vtec, but is does have dual cams which in my opinion makes it the best platform to build on.
