Default Oil Light Goes Off and On ???

after my alternator took a **** on me.. left me stuck in pasedena for like 3 hours.. my gf's dad replaced the alternator.. now it holds a steady idle...before the alternaotr was replaced the idle was pretty funny, rpms would fluctuate from 1300 rpm to 500rpm... but now my oil light flickers on and offmostly when i gas it... i checked my oil and it was at a normal level.. any idea's? can it be a short?? any help will be appriciated thanks...

it could be a short, but i wouldn't risk it, i'd get your oil pressure checked out, if your oil pump takes a dump, you won't be able to drive a mile before something in your engine gives out.

If you have some one else do it..then yes it would be costly..

check your wires and your sensor before you get all crazy..

u can get a high flow oilpump for like 150 http://www.importperformanceparts.net
but from what ive read on here befroe the flickering of the oil light was either a short or the oil pump goign out, like the other person mentioned get a oil pressure check done

there could be a few reasons for the oil light flickering.
1. Loose or failed electrical connection
2. Low oil level
3. Damaged oil pan w/ damaged pick ups
4. Clogged oil screens or oil lines
5. Bad oil pump
Oil pump is pretty costly if you have it done by a shop probably between $300-$500
If you can do your own timing belt and water pump you could probably do your own oil pump.
hope this helps

yea I have heard of the oil filter giveing bad pressure. Maybe try an oil change. But I think that is too simple...but you never know

I had the same prob. w/ my dohc zc. I was going to a friend's house, and my oil light started flickering. I pulled over and checked my oil. It was full. I got a bit worried, but still drove on it. I was already taking it to a shop to get work done, so I had them check it out. One of the mechanics just moved the wires around a bit, and the oil light went out. All it was is the wires had a short in it. Good luck with your problem, hopefully it will be the same solution as mine.

****, it was the oil filter, my gf's dad repalced it because he said he dented the old one up when he was chaning the alternator... he put on some generic "dynomax" or something oil filter.. i changed my oil and put a fram filter on and the oil light disappeared....
