Default Buying a prelude...help

Hey guys. Im not new to cars, but im new to a prelude. I found a nice SI, 1995, white, 89000mi. Pretty much perfect condition. I was wondering that when I go check it out, what are some things to look for on a gen4? Also, what are the stock SI compression numbers? Anything I should ask about/be concerned about? Any other information would be helpful also. The car is listed at $6900. I checked KBB and they say the car is worth about $6500. That seem reasonable? Thank you in advance.

Also, what service should have been done to it at 89k?

Check to see if the timing belt has been changed. If so did they do the Water pump?

I'm not 100% on what they comp #'s should be but IIRC it's around 190ish.

The H23A1 is a pretty good engine. Not as powerful as a VTEC but good none the less. I would try to talk the guy down to closer to the BB value but that's low miles so it's worth it. Look under the wheel wells for rust/rot.

Ok, after checking the car out, here is whats going on for anyone reading this. I checked it out and its nice as hell. It has a next paint job with the factory white, and the vents are painted in the front also. Nice clearcoat. 89k origional miles. Not rot or rust at all and was prevented due to the wheel wells being sealed from water in the fold on the underside. Timing belt has not been done but i assume that it does not have to untill 100k. He has used a synthetic blend for oil, can i go natural or do I have to stay synthetic? New tires...yokahama z rated and all new roters and brake pads. No dents or dings whatsoever as there was body work done in the paint prep. Car was hit in right rear tire well but damage was completly repaired. Clutch seems a little loose as it was not as nice as my 97 integra. Shifting is smooth, but not as quality as the integra once again. Engine ran smooth on the test drive and was a blast to drive. Stero is shot but thats not a big deal since I plan on replacing it anyway. Muffler is in bad shape but no holes, and from the cat to the muffler I noticed there was alot of rust. Probably stock eshaust I am guessing it will have to be replaced in a year the most. Everything else is perfect. Asking 6950. I want it for no more that like 6300. Sound fair? Anything else I should look at?

If the 90k servicing has not been done yet, I would talk him down to about $6400 or so....

Around 90k you're supposed to get a few things done, like all belts, incl. timing belt, water pump, etc....if it hasn't been done, be prepared to spend some money gettning it done soon.

I saw a '94 VTEC with 4WS and various other features (fully loaded), mint condition, 81,000 miles for $5,000. I was going to buy it but was kinda low on cash, and had only owned my current car for like 3 weeks. I'd say the car you are looking at is over priced.

Uh, they didnt make 4WS VTEC's. At all. It was a swap and this is perfectly OEM. I can't imagine its that overpriced at all but I know I should get more off.

I was gonna say check the wheel wells but it seems those are good. I would defintely get the t-belt water pump done.
