Increase lift and durration on stock cams?
If I adjust my valves to a .005 instead of .006, this would increase my lift and durration on stock cams... but, what (if any) negitive effects could I expect from this?
What do you mean?

You think they will just mushroom and get sucked in? Or actually BURN up?

Don't play with valve clearances.... if you're running a h22... there are plenty of options in the aftermarket.. if you're running a H23, there are few options but the stock cams are fairly decent anyway........ play with a stock top end clearances and your asking for trouble.IMO
Don't screw w/ the valve clearances; they control how much room is left for expansion of the metal once the motor heats up.....NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH!
You can't change the cam specs by adjusting anything in our motors, and there's no ratio rockers or anything of the sort for our cars. Sorry bud, it's new cams or bust!

You could check the valve clearances while the engine is cold, then recheck when hot. That will give you a good idea of how much the clearances are tightening up when the engine is at operating temp. You can tighten them up a couple of thousandths but no more. Like the previous posts stated, be aware of the heat expansion. Tightening the clearances will increase your overlap slightly, tighten them too much and your idle quality will be negatively affected.
