Rookie on track
So I will be putting myself and my car on track in Nov at Summit for the first time.
I am really excited and kinda scared. I have worked grid for the past year and 1/2 but now I will be taking class and running in HPDE 1.
Hope me and the car is ready. If I am slow please excuse me. I will give a point by when my senses are done taking in everything else. I can't wait for my brain to go into overload.
Thanks for reading,
The Ball.

Seriously - if you've spent a bunch of time at the track working in any capacity you know WAY more than most newb drivers about how things work. I remember guys at my first SCCA competition school who had never BEEN to a race track. They didn't know where pregrid was, where to exit the track - or even which direction it went, until they saw someone out there that morning.
Working races should be a mandatory step in the licensing process and I don't mean just spending one session standing in a turn station...

The students i've had that have spent time at the track in a worker/organizational position for a few events are much more comfortable when they do get out on track. They have a hell of a lot less to worry about, and are at ease when they're at grid - not already flustered because they ran out of classroom, forgot where their car was and got to grid late, and dont know the line through turn 3 at summit from a hole in the ground.

working a full weekend is a pre-req to getting a full comp liscense in Midwestern Council.

Yeah, mike should be of minimal hassle. He's certainly been there enough. (
in grid, btw). Glad to see you getting out there. All of your money will soon dissapear *poof*
I would instruct him - "roll that arrrrr!!!"

But honestly, thanks everyone for all your support. I hope to do well out there and not screw up that bad. If I spin again, I guess chalk that up to not enough seat time.
Maybe I am just going to get all that out of the way now and roll the rest of you in 2-3 sessions.
Can't believe that I am out there. I want to think ahead and see myself grab the comp license but I know that I can't yet.
I need to focus on basics first. Maybe in 4-5 events I can start thinking about that, but then again maybe not, I guess I will have to see when the time comes.
Above all I have learned so much from all of you just being at track weekends. I have to personally thank Dr. Cortez for being the sole person getting me involved in Road Racing.

you may thank him now, but I reckon you will be cursing him soon enough... (something about money going *poof*, as RJ put it)

But there are benefits to being an official for NASA. Money going poof for the car is one thing, money for the track is completely different, no poof.
