What degree should i set my timing at on my sohc del sol to obtain optimum performance. The head, ecu, and cam are stock. Im running 7-8psi and have a msd btm. Whats the best way to go. Stock timing with a little retard on ignition? Retard both?

 

timing in the diszzy works and I'd go to 8degrees if its untuned....little sluggish but shouldn't detonate.

 

-3 degrees off base, more than enough.

Im not sure where that 8 degrees came from but i think he should be banned from F/I

But in all seriousness 3 is DEF. more than enough.

With the MSD i'd just do maybe a little under 1 degree per lb and leave the dizzy stock. That's what the MSD is for.

yeah don;t mess with the dizzy, 3/4 degree per pound worked great for me.

also your engine timming is different that your ignition timming. only reason u should need to adjust engine timming is for aftermarket cams.

 

Yeah i know its different.....I have the cam gear set at zero. When i set the timing, the book says 16 degrees at 750 rpm. If the rpm is not real close to that the timing will be off right?

If the car is untuned he wants to avoid detonation....specially since we don't know what ******* kind of fuel management he has or his knowledge of vehicles.

Second 8degrees is safe......USE A timing light for christ sakes. thats with my cam gear at 0

No, 8 degree's of timing retard is extreme. If anything you're only causing more excessive heat and promoting alot of backfiring with the amount of unspent fuel being dumped in the turbine.
