eg hatch custom rear speaker kit
I wasn't about to drop the money on an ebay kit and I like things on my car to be well thought out and executed properly as well, so me and my roomate made custom speaker mounts with 3/8" density board and a little bit of dynamat. The sound quality is amazing since the factory kits would not provide a solid air tight seal for the speaker to play from. Mid bass is very strong and the whole thing cost much less than a kit. We then drilled 1/4" holes in the removeable plastic peice by the arm rest and wrapped it in speaker cloth. looks super sweet and i will have more pics when it is but back together

Attaching strips of Dynamat works surprisingly well. I've done many a trunk like that, and the results have been very good. I like to knock on various places, then stick Dynamat pieces to any spots that seem hollow, or rattle. Works like a charm!

no didnt make a speaker box, the JL audion speakers I am using are just a free air set up as are 99% of door speakers, but it is still important to have a nice airtight seperation between the front and rear of the speaker to elliminate wave cancellation.
The dynamat keeps things from rattling due to speakers and bumps in the road, the car is sooo much more quite and the weight of dynamat is not an issue, plus I put some under the carpet where my feet sit when I am driving, this eliminates the vibrations due to the road and exhaust and makes the long trips more comfortable.

I will take more pics tomorrow and post them. it is very straight forward you just need the right tools to cut the speaker hole and to make the wood notched to fit around the wheel well.
I used the wood that looks like the bottoms of cheap dresser drawers, but much thicker.
this stuff is strong yet pliable to bend to the contours of the vehicle.
a dozen 1 in drywall screws to hold it in
and a 2 door speaker kit of dynamat extreme ( to do the whole car)
