tranny gearing question
ok, here is the scenario: i have an LS tranny, a GSR tranny, and i am buying USDM ITR gears, LSD, and JDM final drive. what i think im going to end up doing is putting the jdm final drive with the USDM ITR 1st through 4th gear and dropping in the GSR 5th, so it will almost be like the JDM ITR tranny. im scared of gas mileage concerns, therefore i was wondering if an LS 5th gear would fit instead of the GSR one? ive heard that there are compatability issues. also, the GSR gears should swap directly onto the JDM final drive, right?? your help is appreciated and i want to thank everyone now who responds.
The tranny upgrade is well worth it. Probably the best mod on my all motor setup. I've got a GSR shell tranny with b16a 1-5 gear ratios, 4.785 JDM FD, Kaaz 1.5 way LSD, fully built into the tranny.....absolutely beautiful tranny setup. I say go for it if your serious about your car. If your worried about gas mileage then your not in it for what its really worth. For everything you do there is usually some kind of negative that subsides. I hate the highway cruising but I deal with it.
Im not sure about the GSR 5th or LS 5th, I almost did this aswell a few months back. I was told that the GSR 5th would drop it 500 rpms in a highway cruise in 5th, and the LS would drop it slightly more. I would just stick with the entire itr tranny ratios. You can deal with it, plus it'll help you control your speed and its actually a great defense against speeding
