Messed up rear brakes, dragging!!!!! HELP!!
I just replaced my rear brakes, aroudn 4k miles ago. I have stock pads/calipers/rotors. The brakes were eaten away REALLY fast, and now there is little to know pad left on them. I know that they are dragging on the rotor even when i'm not pushing the brake down, because they squeal under just normal driving, no braking, and sometimes, when i stop and try to let the car roll backwards a little bit (i have a 5spd) it will just stick, like i was braking. I'm desperate! haha...Could someone just tell me what is wrong and how to fix it? Ask for any other information and I'll give it to you. I'm going to get the brakes done this afternoon, and if it is something I could do myself (i.e. something that doesn't require special equipment, i'm capable of pretty much anything else) that would be great. Thanks a lot guys
your caliper is seized..which one..i dont know but figure out which one or both and diy...its realy simple..i had the same problem a month ago..my right rear caliper was seized and i was eating pads as well...
What did you replace 4k miles ago? Calipers? If not, a couple things to check...
Check the caliper slide pins, the caliper needs to move in order to release the outboard pads. Also, the pads themselves can't be jammed tight in the caliper bracket. They have to be able to move away when the caliper releases.
The other thing to check, is whether your handbrake is what's dragging. Mine did this, & it wasn't the cable. There's a lever on each caliper where the cable is attached. That lever got corroded where it goes into the caliper, so that spring wasn't strong enough to release the handbrake. I had to reach underneath & pull that lever otherwise they'd drag. (I replaced the calipers...)

Well sometimes when i'm pulling up my handbrake i feel kind of a thunk...it's hard to describe, but it suddenly seems to like clunk, and you can feel it when I pull it up. How much will new calipers cost? I replaced the brake pads 4k miles ago. I hope this doesn't cost too much...
If you can feel it when you pull the handbrake, then maybe(?) it a rusted handbrake cable & not the calipers at all. You just have to find out WHERE it's sticking.
Put the back on stands, take off the wheels. Apply the handbrake then release it. On MINE, you could go to the calipers, the cable would slide smooth & easy, but the lever on the caliper was stuck. Maybe on YOURS it's the cable that's stuck. Just 'cause mine screwed up one way, doesn't mean that's the only way for them to stick...
I think you can get caliper rebuild kits. For me, when it happened, I could get reman calipers much quicker than I could get kits. I would have preferred to get the kits but they were backordered or something...

I have the same problem on my 93 Eagle Talon. I'm sure that it has something to do with the handbrake because when I pull the handbrake, there is no resistance, it's like as if the brakes are already applied and clamping the rotor.
Would you agree that it's the handbrake?
What can be the cause if so?

</TD></TR></TABLE>Sure, the handbrake isn't releasing. I don't know the details for the Talon, but usually you gotta figure out whether it's the cable or the caliper. Does the Talon's handbrake use the main caliper? Some cars have a small drum brake built into the 'hub' of the rotor.
First, does the handbrake cable work OK? Disconnect the cable from the caliper, both sides, & push/pull the cable. If it doesn't slide smoothly, get new cables.
Then check whatever kind of lever (on the caliper) that the cable is attached to. Is the return spring broken, missing, disconnected? Is the lever stuck (rust)? If it's sticking, you have to figure out if it's rebuildable or maybe you just wanna get new (rebuilt?) calipers.
You gotta check this stuff out yourself - I can't see it from here.

Thanks man! You've helped me out so many times already.
That's exactly what kind of response I was looking for. I basically just wanted to know where I should start.
BTW, The hand brake setup is very similiar to the teg. It has the lever with the return springs on the caliper.

I found out today that the emergency brake cable on the driver side was seized. I'm kinda pressed for time so I just disconected the cable from the caliper and left it hanging.
I drove the car and all was good, but do you think it's safe to drive like this for the time being?
thanks
