Default Spoiler Functionality on '97-up Preludes

Just curious to know if the stock spoilers on the '97-up Preludes are for looks only, or are they functional? The reason I ask is that I may buy a 2000 Prelude, but it doesn't have a spoiler. To me the car still looks clean with or without the spoiler. I have read that the Integra GSR's stock spoiler was mainly for looks and not functionality, but that the Type-R's spoiler was functional. I tried to do a search but I couldn't find anything.

Most FWD cars with rear spoilers are not functional. Well not functional enough to make a difference.

No function really. Unless you plan on takeing a sharp turn at a very high speed inwhich you would want the downforce on your back wheels but even then i dont know how much a stock spoiler would help. so Its for looks mainly

Those posts are not entirely accurate. Spoilers are mostly for looks because most people will never/rarely notice it's function. At least on preludes, cavaliers, and civics (all the cars that I've been lucky enough to drive with and without spoilers) I've noticed a diffence in the way the car drives even at highway speeds ( 75+). I wouldn't expect it to take a corner any faster, but it just feels like a more confident drive.

My friend with a Type-R said that it puts down 17lbs at 70mph.

my friends 3000 gt has an electronic spoiler that can be adjusted from outside the car, but hondas and such, I would say if someones involved in driving well into the hundreds such as 130+ it may help.

actually on the vr-4's the spoiler automatically adjusts to the
speed your going, at least on the older ones.
but i agree that they don't really help unless your going
well over 100mph like the vr-4's do exceptionally well

I meant to say from inside the car. Its funny the looks we get when sitting at a light next to a competitor as they realize its not a slow 3000gt like most around here lol, when the light goes green they hear the turbo. It only runs a 13.8 with a few mods, I guess they are heavy.
