Default Civic Side Marker Wiring?

Does anyone know how to wire the side marker to stay constant and blink with the turn signals?

You do realize that that isn't the proper way to wire them, right?

what do you mean, it's not the right way? i figured it was how you wanted it. My friend bought me the lights, and the only way that I could get them to woek was to wire them one way or the other. If i tried hooking it up, by the directions, it wouldn't stay on with the lights, and when I used the blinker it would blink very faint and fast.... would be interested in how you work around this...

Yeah, technically, true jdm sidemarkers only come on when your turn signal is on. However, 95% of the people that have them have them so their on all the time. I'll try and find the link that shows how to wire them up so they only come on when you have your turn signals on.

I think this is the how-to right here:

Wire Side Marker Lights As Corner Lights
Written by RareSI

This explains how to wire sidemarker lights to mimimic your corner lights using a single filament bulb and socket.

Materials needed:

(4) Standard 5 pole SPDT automotive relays
Crimp connectors
Hookup wire
Wire crimpers/strippers
Procedure:

[ RELAY A ]

Terminal 30: 12v positve. Come off of a distribution block or straight from battery. MUST BE CONSTANT!
Terminal 85: Ground, stay within 3 feet.
Terminal 86: Wire 1 at the parking light connector.
Terminal 87: 12v positive side of side marker light.
[ RELAY B ]

Terminal 30: 12v postive. Come off of a distribution block or straight from battery. MUST BE CONSTANT!
Terminal 85: Ground, stay within 3 feet.
Terminal 86: Wire 2 at the parking light connector.
Terminal 87: 12v positive side of side marker light.
RELAY A RELAY B
12v POS wire
at side marker

Wire 1 at
parking light
12v NEG

12v POS

12v POS wire
at side marker

Wire 2 at
parking light
12v NEG

12v POS

How does the above diagram make the side markers work?

We already know that terminal 30 is being supplied power from the vehicle. As well as being grounded on terminal 85.
Terminal 86 senses current, and it allows the power to flow to terminal 87 which is connected to the side marker light.
The need for two relays is to allow the side marker light to act as a dual filament bulb and serve two purposes. Viola!

NOTE: The above diagram is only for ONE side of the vehicle. Follow the same pattern for both sides.

Factory side-markers, whether JDM, European, etc., blink only with the turn signals and hazard lights. They are intended to alert drivers on the side of the car that you are signaling. Yes, you can wire them however you'd like, but the "correct" way is as I described. I'm not very fond of how side-markers look when they're constantly lit, and I feel it somewhat reduces their effectiveness, but I know that everyone has their own tastes.

does it HAVE to be that complicated...the use of relays? i thought you could just run two wires from the marker light to the headlight(turn signal part) and they would work just fine.

I did not read the link yet, but you can just run the 2 wires to the corner lamps...The hot wire to the green (signal) and the ground to the ground at the corner lamps or any chasis ground will work..This is if you want it to blink only when the signals or hazards are on.....

Ok I just read the link..yeah what they said..

Thanks for the info on the wiring. Out of all the searches I've done this is the real true way of doing it and it helps out.

This is the way how id like to re-wire mine, they are currently wired to come on ONLY when using turn signals/hazards. Ive just always liked the idea of them being running lights AND turn signals. Im doing this on a 01' prelude, so im assuming the wiring is similar?

Run a power wire to a constant power source(running light), and ground to the turn signal itself? Correct me if im wrong... thanks
