what do you guys think about mileage on eg hatches?
OK,
lets say your planning your perfect dream eg hatch project,
this is a car your going to keep for quite some time, and are going to build
up to be your perfect car.
NOW say you can find one with a perfect body to start with..
but it has well over 100k miles. so later down the line, once you've had it for a while, and finally got it where you want it(modification wise) it'll be gettin close to 200k! Now, should you care about this? or does it not matter? I know these can last well over 400k But this isnt some beater, this is THE CAR!!
heh, I know this all sounds very hypothetical but it does apply to my current situation, personally, I would love to drive around my dreamcar when it has less than 100k, although.. this is probably just me being ridiculous and obsessive.
oh well, any thoughts are appreciated

mileage on a shell doesnt matter. if u plan on keeping the stock motor than dont buy a high mileage car...
ah, ok.
so you would say that if a motor swap is in the plans,
then the mileage is pretty irrelevant.
I am thinking motor swap,
dx hatch, d16z6 engine, or jdm d15vtec
any other thoughts?

OH, ok the other thing.
I prettymuch have the option right now,
of buying a 92 charcoal hatch with 75k and paint thats completely toast,
a few dings here and there, but nothing minor, most should come out ez.
asking 2500
or a 94 charcoal hatch with 108k and a mint body, asking 3500
both dx's,
the 92 has an si tach in it, exhaust, intake, shortshifter(all cheap ones tho)
94 is stock.

yeah if I can get it for 3 i'll DEFINETLY go for it.
but for the one with messed up paint, I had planned a respray.
so it would be the 2500+new paint= final cost. figure paint would be 1500max(not going for crazy showroom qual, but no maaco special either).
so thats 4k for mint paint and 75k chassis. although it would take more work

Mileage should not matter if you plan to do a swap.
If you plan on not swapping motors and only care for appearance / cosmetic things then you should consider getting a lower mileage vehicle.

I've seen 80k mile hatches in worst shape than some 200k mile hatches. Miles are really not a issue more than condition of the car. Check for body damage that was poorly repaired, fenders that don't line up, and the worst is signs of rust.
main bad thing about high milage on a chassis is that things like windows, locks, controls, heater matrix etc.. are more likely to fail but its no big deal, its a lot cheaper to replace these items than it is to replace a damaged panel etc..also a car which has spent most of its life going in a straight line on the motorway is probably going to be a lot better than one thats done half the mileage but has been driving in stop and go traffic.
i dont see a problem with your "dream car" having 150k or so on the shell. You are restoring the car correct? I thought the whole purpose of restoring the car was make that 15ok body run or feel liek 50k. I wouldnt worry about how many mile are on the car as much as the quality of the work
mileage shouldn't matter.....i'd rather get an EG that has a striaght body.....
what do u plan on doing to this EG?

if you plan on doing a swap in the near future, mileage doesn't matter (i bought my 94 dx hatch w/ 187,XXX miles, but now i have an LS motor so it is irrelevant) but i would want a fairly straight body, and maybe a color i like so i won't have to repaint the jams and engine bay(unless you want to completely change the color) ,phantom gray or captive blue pearl hatches are pretty sweet, mine is white and i love it!!! i suggest the $3500 charcoal dx,see if you can get it for $3000 though as stated earlier!
hmm, sounds about right guys.
unfortunately, I checked out the nice body hatch, and it wasnt as nice as I thought,
paint looked kinda dull, and quite a few tiny dings. dings were pretty tiny, but there were a good number.
also the dude wouldnt waver on the price any.
oh well.
i'm back to considering the lowmileage one
