RSX First Oil Change
I went to change my oil today, but couldn't get the frickin filter off
. So I drove up to Acura to see if they could change my oil, and I saw the guy I bought my car from. He was tellin me to wait the 10,000 miles till the first change.
I was just curious if anyone actually waited 10k before they changed the oil. It seems kind of odd to me...

Yeah mined burned a quart through about the first 2500, then I just changed it today at 3800. Should I wait for 10k to go to synthetic or do it at 5k?
between the two dots is considered the "operating range"....so dont let it get lower than the low dot, but dont ever fill higher than the top dot. i always top mine to exactly the top dot. the distance between the two dots is equal to one quart of oil.

So are you saying that if someone buys a brand new RSX they should wait until 10,000 to change the oil?

I changed my oil after 3k because at that point, the oil level was down to the bottom dot. I just got a second oil change after 6k and guess what? No burnt oil =P At 9 or 10k I'm changing the oil along with the MTF.
The first oil change should not be done until 5000 miles. There is a special break in oil in there from the factory that has a higher concentration of moly. (molybdinum disulfied ..sp?)
10k change intervals are for ideal driving conditions, like just around your living room. In the real real world I feel 5k is about right. 3k is too soon and is just a result of the oil companies' BS to increase profits. To be absolutely sure, you could always send off a sample to be anylized.
BTW, mine has never consumed oil from day one. I'm at 6k now.

uh yea, that first oil change at 5K is ******* bullshit. usually you never listen to what they tell you
at the dealer. i work for one so i know what im talking about. sorry for sounding cocky. anyways
theres no need to keep the factory oil in the car till 5K since the special lube which the factory coats
the engine when they're assemblying it burns off about 500 miles in. you know that new car smell?
not the smell of the interior but the engine buring smell on new cars. thats the special lube or
"break in oil" that is burning off. the only thing logical about a "break in oil" it should wear the
engine faster. so in my head i would want that out asap. i know after this everyone is gonna
say "Oh No!! the dealer told me this and that, its in the manual" blah blah blah...
well ok go by the book if you like. i hope you know that the book is tell you lies.
wow that was a waste of time for me. thanks you noobs.

Yeah..I would've changed at 5k but when I checked my oil at 3k...I was basically saying "good lord, I need some oil in the car" since it was almost all gone. After the oil change though, the car felt GREAT.
