Windshield Crack!
I just needed some help guys. I have a crack on the bottom of my windshield that runs nearly all the way across. The dealer said they have a good place they send there cars to and it would cost around $600-700 for the repair. My question is: I've read in a search that all integra glass is the same, so would I be better off getting a windshield from a bone yard or would there be some kind of problem with that?? I have been living with the crack for a while now becaus ethere are alot of other things I would like to put 600 dollars into
Thanks for your help

I would get a new windshield if I were you.
BTW - $600-700 sounds steep. Non-Honda glass should be closer to the $300-400 range, with Honda being maybe a hunnerd bone more...
Hey Eiks it's shame you dont live near me. I can get you a BRAND NEW DC2 windshield installed for $250! With my Nationwide employee discount. Look around for places that honor ANY kind of discount, like independent pro glass installers.
Insurance --- depends on your deductable!!
Just had a PPG windshield installed yesterday for around $225.
Tinted just like the original, haven't had a chance to check quality yet till I get it nicely cleaned (but not bad in my opinion).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all replacement shields were NON-OEM (meaning not Honda or whatever Japenses company made). I would personally go to a local junk yard and get the OEM windshield for less. It shouldn't cost more than $250 at the yard.
Just had my OEM replacement from Acura put in this week.. It is an exact match as the original windshield.. same part#.. says HONDA on the glass.. $552 from Acura along with the top/center molding. Total bill was about $650.. I paid my deductible which is $250. Excellent install by Mark at Eastern Glass, here in Charlotte.. I'm satisfied.

I know here in FL, if you have a crack in your windshield, your insurance WILL pay for it, without any cost to you...no deductible, nothing! check your state laws or contact your insurance...
I guess their reasoning is to prevent any further accidents from happening due to the possibly obstructed view. Make sure you request OEM glass...

Progressive said it would only install OEM glass if the car was of the current model year and had less than 12000 miles.

Thanks for the replies guys and it is too bad h-pimp I would have definitely taken you up on your offer. It turns out my onsurance agent who is also a friend of the family is going to be at my parrents house tonight I'm gonna stop in and ask him about the windshield.
Thanks again everyone

OEM Glass has that heat rejecting tint/coating on it right? I noticed the dealer noted that in the brochure for my civic for the EX and Si compared to the other models.
Hmm, you can't use glass that is already on a different car. Removing the glass ruins the bonding properties of the glass surface and the glue.
Also, I read somewhere that ITR windshield is a special lighter version?

The windshield is very important for protecting the occupants during a crash and for proper airbag deployment. Nightline did a really good show not too long ago on what happens to cars when a windshield is replaced improperly. They showed for instance, a "reputable" shop handling the glass without gloves (big no no) and not preparing the glass properly prior to the application of the adhesive. They basically concluded that it was better to keep the stock windshield and have it repaired, rather than have a new windshield improperly installed (which could result in death of occupants). They also pointed out that the windshield is important in maintaining the structural integrity of the roof in the case of a rollover type accident.
If the crack bothers you - get the windshield replaced. But make sure its not a hack job. Hang around and watch the people who install the windshield, and make sure they do it properly. Buyer beware.
