hey i have 92 civic sedan and everytime i rev the engine smoke comes out.. and when its in idle there is smoke too just not noticible

 

check your oil & oil filter, it's the most obvious reason for the smoke.

= burning oil. Maybe you have too much.

 

hmm i think thats the problem too now. becuase i put 3 3/4 qt oil when im supposed to put 3 only?

will the oil burn off by itself?

 

blue smoke is burning oil. get the oil to the right amount. then see if it still does it i guess. then if it does, do a compression test. oil could be leaking past rings.

 

how do i get the oil to the right amount? do i just hold the accelerator and burn the oil?

that is now the most retarded thing i have read on here! use the dipstick you dumbass, if it's too high drain some out, don't burn it off, if you run your engine with excess oil you can cause serious damage.

okay i drained some of the oil and theres not as much smoke anymore..

on the lower revs there is no smoke

but on the higher revs there is smoke. do i just keep draining oil until it goes away or just leave it like it is?

check the dipstick, dipstick... J/k man. The level should fall just short of the second hole.

 

okay i checked its about an 1/8" short of the second hole. it smokes when i rev the engine a bit high. my car doesnt have a tachometer but i know im not reving to where it would be redlining.

 

Does the motor have a ridiculous amount of miles?

 

yes sir 168,327mi. &lt;--so thats the problem?

 

possibly.... might have oil getting into the combustion chamber from the valve seals...

so umm, u sure you know how to check the oil?

there should be a mark where it says full on the dipstick. don't go past this mark. it could hurt the seals in your engine.

so if there's no smoke except when u redline it, could just be running really rich. just a suggestion. wait, that's black smoke, ha.
