Default Wheel Hop

Well, last night my friend wanted to see what my R can do. So coming out of a right-hand turn, I gun the biotch. Getting up to engagement was fine. Still adjusting to the very high redline, I quickly shift to 2nd and notice my front wheels hopping for a split second trying to grab traction. My question is is this normal? Is it good/bad? Please keep in mind I've only had the R for a few months now and my previous car was a civic HX; It was virtually impossible for to get my wheels to hop fro 1st to 2nd if I tried. Am I just a crappy driver? Is there any way of preventing wheel hop without shifting too slow?

Thanks.

In the nicest most unpretentious way possible PLEASE, Take it to the track.

I can see an unfortunate future post in the HT crystal ball where you or someone similar says they lifted in a turn and *** ended it into a tree or wall.

The traction or lack thereof can be due to many things but, I'd guess mostly in your case due to the car being unsettled in the turn at the point where you shifted.

Take it somewhere you can learn about it in a safer environment.

Please.

Wheel hop is normal for a stock R when it looses traction. Try driving in the rain, it's horrible. I got rid of my hop by beefing up all my motor mounts and installing a race suspension.

Please take it easy on the street.

1GreyTeg & DRPooface are giving you some good advice!!! We want you to have your R as loooooooooooooooong as possible. But about the wheel hop.... I beleive over a long time it is bad on the whole tranny & drive system. I installed Prothane motor mount inserts & it 99% cut out all wheel hop. But it will vibrate A bit @ idle. I tell eveyone when I got them I cranked the car & said OMG!!! WAHT HAVE I DONE???!!! The vibration took a couple of days to get used to but now I can't imagine it back stock. If you deside to go that route, go ahead & get the shifter bushing mount while your @ it. I think you'll like'm. Good luck!

To justify myself, I was taking the turn normally after yielding the intersection . It was not until the car was stable after the turn did I gun it. I appreciate your guys' concern. I'll play it safe next time. As for the motor mount inserts, would you recommend them if the car was a daily driver? How bad is the vibration at idle?

To me the vib. is not that bad. only worse when you 1st crank the car cold. PS.---don't have any change in your ashtray or it WILL drive you nuts. lol

Sup Dennis, how's the R? I still remember the day you brought the sticker off the new R in novak's class to prove to us you got it back in highschool.

I also would like to know what to do if you still have wheel hop after installing the mount inserts. I own an EK with a JDM ITR swap and even with the lsd and mount inserts, it still hops bad. I also have Tein S. Tech springs and KYB AGX shocks, I've tried almost every setting combination and nothing works.

Get better tires.

And after that get the motormounts, if you still have excessive wheel hop, you could consider the J's engine torque dampner, or you could get some sort of traction bars for the front. If you have all three of those and it still isn't getting traction, you might need to learn how to drive better.

or better yet, JimFab. Supposedly has better geometry than the z10 bars.

Is it just me or am I am the only one that thinks differential could help solve this problem. After I had mine installed I noticed wheel hop was reduced dramatically
