Default RRRex vs. Mosport....

And Mosport won. Sucks. Left the track with a rod sticking of the block. For the life of me I can't figure out how it happend. It was the second lapping session of the day on a new track. I had an instructor in the car with me and was taking it slow to learn the line. Came around 5b and heard a clicking sound so I let off the throttle. Hit the straight and it was gone - thought debris or something rubbing against the rims - went on the throttle slowly, seemed fine, Vtec kicked in, so I contined down the straight shifting at 7K when I heard 2 large popping sounds followed by a lot of smoke. The motor was done.

Don't think it was oil related - fresh fluid went in the night before and before the lapping I checked it before going onto the track and it was clean and full. I run a baffled oil pan too.

Didn't over rev it - was still learning the track. Even my instructor was puzzled.

Won't know till it comes apart. Any theories on the weak link?

Wrong! he is in the right forum He is running a B18C5...

Man, that truly sucks... I thought you were going to tell us about some off track misshap but this sucks just the same... I wonder if your issues with engine overheating had any bearing on this? Hope it's nothing serious.

On a more positive note, how was Mosport from the drivers seat?

I've never been more scared in my life. Loved every minute of it - gotta go back. 4, 5a and 5b corners are pure heaven and hitting 220 on an uphill straight away to a 150 right hander - never taken a corner at 150 before. Plus walls everywhere. 5 cars were towed home that day - 2 were wrecks and 3 were breakdowns. It's all 3rd and 4th gear mucho speed.

I wondered about the overheating - but when I did the head gasket it was fine. Won't know till I take it apart. Went to a JDM importer yesterday looking for JDM R and he told me it's probably backpressure. Who knows. I'm thoroughly pissed though. Rs shouldn't blow up like that. Not sure what to do about it.

Maybe a loose wire harness caused the engine to lean out or something... Hybrids often have electrical problems and sometimes engine failure can result. I have never seen (nor heard of) a stock R motor going poof like that. Hope the damage is not too bad.

Yep - kph. We're crazy canuks. That's like 140-145mph on the straight and 95mph on the right hander. Definately not recomended for those with a hear condition.

Electrical is a theory, but my car is full obd2 with the complete type R wiring harness. Don't think the wiring is any more likely to fail than on a stock type R. I'll have to tear it down and see. I'm not even sure what to look for.
