Track Oil Down, PULL OVER!
I just read a post in https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=763361
Here's a quote...
It started off great, 11.07@126 right off the trailer during time trials. New personal best and I believe it would have qualified me first in Pro/Am FWD with everyone else having problems. First round of qualifying the motor let go and I oiled the track. My apologies to the IDRC and all of the other racers, I thought it was an axle. I wouldn't have coasted to the end if I knew I had a hole in the oil pan.
If you ever experience any problems on the track, please do us all a favor and pull over. I don't know about all of you but I would rather watch racing instead of track support cleaning up a mess or possibly causing a future accident.
Thank God it hasn't come down to this yet, but it can... http://www.nhra.com/2004/news/february/021903.html

Man, if this is the truth I don't know what is. I'd love to have been able to fine people for oiling the track. Regardless of what you think the problem is. PULL THE HELL OVER!!!!!! You have no idea how much of a bitch it is to clean some of the oils out there up. Redline oils, and other synthetics can be a total pain in the *** to clean up. Please oh please PULL OVER!!!!!!! No matter what the problem is. I sincerely hope sanctioning bodies do start handing out fines ASAP!!!!!!!!

The person who did it is on this board and had already explained what happened. Calm down, I'm sure he wont do it again. I understand what's the concern but there is no need to dog one guy for it.

Exactly.
Exactly.
First off I did not write this post to dog on any particular individual. I started it to make a point and to make sure all the users of this forum are aware of the problem and EDUCATE. He isn't the only person guilty of oiling down the track. Obviously people still need to be educated if he didn’t know to pull over. I have been to many races across the country were the racing has been stopped for HOURS because of people oiling down the entire race track, and at one event in Sonoma Dr Charles hit the wall in the Team Bergenholtz CRX because the track cleaning team did not clean the lane 100%.
IF YOU BREAK PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

Definitely. It doesn't matter what breaks...just pull to the side as quick as possible and check it out. I've spent countless hours cleaning the track after an oil down. It makes it alot easier when the driver just stops the car.
Another thing, if you oil down, loose radiator fluid (my least favorite), or break, offer the track officials some help. It will show that you have some character and ease tension amongst the employees, who are actually HELPING YOU clean up YOUR MESS.

It's actually windy at the end of that particular part of the track and it wasn't an oil down that caused that unfortunate accident.

Yeah oil downs suck *** to clean up, but hey skid plating afterward is fun.....Nothing better than doing 60mph on a sled behind a truck....LOL till you fall off that is

I was on the starting line and saw the accident. I also talked with Ron before posting just to make sure I was posting accurate information. Besides this is not about being right or wrong.
People, if you have a problem, large or small just pull over!
If we want to ensure the survival of our sport we must act professional.
With Shaun's and Ed's performance at the NHRA Winternationals the eyes of millions will be on our sport. The worst we can do is put on a bad show and have all the work our sports Pioneers did go down the drain.
I was at Irwindale and saw 10,000+ people crowd into the speedway to see 30 cars slide across the infield. I remember when Battle of the Imports had similar crowds, now most events are lucky if the get 1000 spectators, beside Englishtown I have not been to a single event that had the same atmosphere as D1 did.
If we don't straighten up our act we might see sport compact drag racing replace by drifting.
