I say determine how far you want to take your motor (Hp, torque, rpms, etc...) first. Then research all the different components you may want to use, and purchase ones that best fit your setup and wallet.
Do some research, buy some nice tools, and assemble it yourself. Take your time and you will be fine.
You will lean a ton, save a ton, and have the satisfaction of knowing you tuned every nut and bolt on your motor
And as DiRep says, the best motor is one of compromise.

Never had a built motor, nor have any plans to build one anytime soon, so i have no biased opinions, but I would look into RS Machines, or Benson(talk to earl).
Earl made a good thread with alot of tech info on the benson blocks, and how they are built, machined, ect.... I havent heard of anyone ever having probs with one of thier blocks, Search under earl as creator in FI forum and you should find it, but from what ive seen, read, either company you cant go wrong. I beleive both are in the same price range as well.

I second that.....Sending my block and parts to him in november for the works, He has some great prices and has a great reputation for his work. Also being
part of a racing team with a 9 second crx helps!!
