Default Sub. Advice

I Have a 240w generic amp 2-channel...and i was wondering if it would sound nice(deep bass feeling) with a 12'' Pioneer subwoofer.
-Or should i get a smaller sub? like a 10''

i'd go for 2 8's in a sealed box... or 1 10" in a bandpass box.

Well, i was gonna go for a 10" Pioneer sub. But after i went to "BestBuy's" i asked the guy to show me how a Pioneer 12"subwoofer would sound like, and it was powered by a 300w amp. It sounded "CRAZY!!!", literally 1/4 of the store was shaking.

-So, thats why i ask if it would also sound similar to it. Since my amp is 240 with a 60w difference compared to 300w.

*And yea, i kept in mind that the amp they used is a RockFord and mines is not.

Also remember it's in a very open area... things change when it's in a trunk. That's why I recommended the smaller woofers to provide a similar listening space to bass.

So i should get a 10" Pioneer sub instead?
-In a bandpass box?

-Where would u recommend me to get the cheapest box at. B/c "BestBuy's" selling them boxes for 100$. And i think there should be cheaper places but i don't know where.

I have never been a fan of Bandpass boxes. only have a limitied frequency response. You could build your own box, for $20 a 8'X4' sheet of MDF. Depeneding on the generic amp you might not get the same results, the amp is probably overrated, where Rockfords are not.

Listening to subs in a showroom is not the same as in car. The environment is much noisier in the car. Please, respect your ears. Don't get a prefab bandpass box

I would recommend a 12 in a small sealed enclosure for a start.

Well the subs i was listening to was not in a showroom.....it was on a bottom of the shelf and he turned it around and it was bump'ed into a open range... yea i kno about the ear thing i was cruising with volume 30 and got so used to it, it sounded low. When i got home my sister was like damn ur volume is too loud...

Hmm..now der is a debate issue. B/c MrDX recommends me to get a 10" sub in bandpass box.... and u recommend 12" in a sealed enclosure.. Hmmmmmmmm!!!! well the cost for the sub is not a big issue just a 10$ difference b/t a 10" and a 12"....

-But i want to get the best bang for the bucks

The sealed enclosure will probably be smaller, and prefab bp boxes suck. Plus more surface area on the 12 is nice. The box for a sealed 12 can be had for $50 for a cheap particle board box around 1 cubic foot. PB is sufficient for low power apps, but not my preference.
