Default Car won't pass 5500 RPM, did a search, not quite the results I need...

So my buddies CRX is a 90 SI, he swapped the motor out for a VX 1.5L VTEC-E...(don't ask why). Ran the car at first with the SI computer and SI OBD-0 distributor. Now, I made him a converter harness to convert to OBD-1...works fine running the car on a P28 with the VX. With both computers and both distributors the car does the same thing. It gets to 5500 and it stops revving. Did a fuel pump test, it works great.

Do you guys have any other ideas? I was given two others possibilities...1) A burnt valve, 2) Spark plug gap?????

Any help is apprecited guys.

Also, now that I'm here? What are the differences between the VX motors and other SOHC VTEC motors? Intake and throttle body for sure and the "Lean-burn" computer, but what else?

Thanks in advance.

What distributor are you using? The VX one hopefully? Sounds like the distributor is fried to me. Take the distributor cap off the VX distributor and see if there's any redish-brown dust on the inside of the cap. I had this happen in my GS-R, and the distributor was done.
