Please Help, How do i identify a JDM R motor?
I know its a b18c5.... but will it say this on the block of the JDM motor?
Also... how can i tell if the head is a true type R head? I don't want to be buying a "type R block" with a GSR or b16 head on it.
I did a search and read that JDM motors don't say anything after the "b18c"
if thsi is the case, how will i know if it's a real b18c5 type R motor?
TIA

Well, your search was correct, JDM Type R motors say nothing after the C. It should read B18C then you will know you have a true JDM Type R Block. I've seen it first hand, at first, I thought the guy was pulling my leg but then he explained JDM = no #.
As for the head, not sure.

okay but.... what if it's a JDM GSR motor?
how will i know he's not lying and saying it's a type R motor, and that the reason why there's no 5 at the end is because its a JDM motor?

Sorry...
Good Luck
well it's not a matter of buying a motor... i'm buying a civic hatch with complete type R changeover... 5 lug, suspension, seats, motor, tranny, etc..
the motor is JDM... and therefore i wanted to make sure the guy isn't pulling my leg... He says he pulls on ITR's in all gears.... but you could do that with a JDM GSR in a light hatch anyway
i'm also concerned with smog... could i use the type R block off my wrecked ITR (USDM)?

someone told me that a JDM gsr motor has a "b18c1" stamped into it and that a type R motor just has "b18c" is this true?
All JDM B18C's have just 'B18C' imprinted on the block. Is it there an ITR manifold bolted cleanly onto the head without modiification? The ITR manifold cannot be bolted onto a GSR head without modification. Are the serial #s on the tranny still there? The transmission casing should be imprinted in black ink with 'LSD'.

no its not true...they all say B18c
you can tell the difference in the heads by the shape of the ports...and if that doesn't work for you how about the type of intake manifold on it...gsr's have dual runners...ok...could still be a b18c1 w/ a skunk2 or modified ITR manifold I guess...so look on the head above the #4 exh port and it will have a date stamp of the production year..amd on the other end of the head it will have a casting stamp: ITR will be a PR3-2 and GSR will be a P72... but it could still be a gsr block with a b16a head...but hey it could also be an itr block and head with all the internalls swapped out for lesser parts too...you just have to drive it to know....

damn... it's gonna be hard to know i guess then... cuz the motor is in a hatch... so even if it was a GSR or block with b16, or whatever.. it'll still feel faster than my USDM ITR...
maybe i just shouldn't buy it? how would i get pass smog here in cali anyway?

Here's one clue: Are the seats, wheels, supension pieces (upper control arm) JDM pieces too? Or were they conveniently sourced from a "wrecked" USDM ITR? If the guy had enough money to bring over the engine/tranny from Japan, then surely he'd fork over the few extra $'s to bring over the seats and wheels as well, right? If he did, then maybe it is indeed a JDM setup. In which case, that'd be pretty sweet.

But LSD's where also sold as options on some SiR models..I've seen it where it was optional. There was even optional LSD for the ZC CRX's but not very many came with it
well.... as far as it being real JDM... he does have civic type R headlights, JDM black recaros, JDM civic type R wing, and even JDM power mirrors! And some other stuff i forget.... oh yeah and a type r gauge cluster in kilometers!!
so i'm pretty sure it's not stolen... I just want to make sure its a legit type R motor.... and i'm also gonna have to worry about smog here in cali huh?

If he spent all that money, then i doubt he chumped on the engine. Who is this guy?
Maybe someone knows him or his car and can vouch? Check to see if the gearing is really short *98 spec jdm tranny*
there was a way to tell by some hole in the valve cover and also something on the intake manifold i believe. I've got a JDM
motor in my car, but not sure how to tell that is IS a true one. *other than the fact i had to pull it out of the front clip*

well... his name is patrick... the civic hatch is black and sits on 17 inch advan RG's
i don't want to give out too much info because i think it'd be wrong of me to do so..

Well if it's CTR it's not B18C it's going to have B16B on the block or it should. I thought this was for JDM ITR..but the CTR is going to have B16B and is only going to drive up to 112mph unless it has delimitor it also came with reg SiR trany and gear ratios
wait a sec.... i thought JDM motors don't have anything after the "b18c"??
so if it's a true JDM R motor? it'll say "b18CR"???
can someone please confirm... because this is the first time i heard this and i'm taking a look at the car tonite...
i always thought is just said "b18c" and that i'd hae to look at the intake man... to make sure it's real.
