Lightweight exhaust ideas?
Does anyone have suggestions on a lightweight exhaust setup?
So far I'm leaning towards a custom thin pipe and Suppertrapp setup. This way I can keep things quiet on the street, then open it up at the autocross. Without resonators and thin piping it should also keep the weight down.
Here are some cool options I found:
Titanium axle back:

Comptech race exhaust:

Exhaust valve controller:

I figured that if a exhaust was too loud that fitting a exhaust valve controller would help quiet thing down until I get to the autocross.

the ricer in me always wanted to have an electric cutout before the cat activated by the VTEC signal.

How about these JDM ones? Think some Type R guys have the Fujitsubo.

Or is the Ti lighter (can't read Japanese):

Most of them don't provide the weights of the system and I get the impression that most any "N1" style exhausts are going to be quite loud. Most all the manufactures that make a Ti system don't make it for the DC2 and if they do it's over $1k.
I think the lightest setup would be the Comptech race exhaust and a valve controller but I don't know of anyone who has tried one of these controllers and how much they reduce the noise.

i'm not sure you're going to find an appreciable amount of weight in the exhaust. at least not enough to warrant $1k. plus, it is weight that is already pretty low in the car. a better place to look at reducing weight would be the seats, if you haven't done them yet. get the seat mounted as low as you can too, and then use a cheap jump seat like kugler does for the passenger side.
also, if you think about it, switching to hoosiers wouldn't cost anymore then some of these exhaust ideas you are kicking around and would likely get you more time.

I realize the weight being removed is from the wrong place but it is one of the few places left that I can remove weight from.
I have replaced the driver seat and got it as low as I can. I can still replace the passenger the seat but after all the hassle with the driver seat I'm not looking forward to that project.

Boeing's surplus warehouse near Seattle used to stock thin-wall Ti tubing in all kinds of diameters that would work for exhaust systems. Ten-foot lengths weighed maybe a couple of pounds...

PM "Kteller8." He does exhausts, and I think he can get thin (18g) or maybe thinnger tubing for you. However, if you think the N1 exhausts like a'pexi or fujitsubo are going to be loud, I think you will be in for a surprise with thin tubing and a supertrapp. . .

compared to my old thermal exhaust, i dropped 7 lbs and gained 5mm ID with a fujitsubo rm01a. beautiful exhaust and relatively quiet too.
Thermal to a BuddyClub SpecIII saved me about 15lbs on my DC2R.
And with the Spec III, you can run with silencer on the street and then take the silencer out for raceday.
SpecIII is only about $600 too, compared to the $900 Ti units.

I lost 20 lb with my exhaust and only cost $45 to make it. The only bad thing about it is its kinda loud. I'd say thats a pretty big loss in weight.
