Antenna help
My antenna on the 'rex is slightly bent, and radio reception sucks. I want to get something new that will give me better reception.
Has anyone put a new antenna in their rex?
I'd like to get one of those "fubar" style ones, but the top mount antenna makes me think I will have problems because of the design of the base. I'd rather not do any cutting and would like a direct replacement if it's available.
TIA.

Well im shaving off my antenna and replacing it with a window mount antenna, you can just go get a cheapie from radioshack for like 6 bucks, then you can go to trak auto and they got a small device that will improve reception for like 25 bucks i forget what its called.
I would rather not have the same style antenna as stock. It's too flimsy and the reception is putrid. I'm inclined to believe that there exist antennas that're better than stock. Nobody's had to replace their antenna except HondaCRX? I'd like something that'll fit in the stock location and that's fixed and not collapsable.
I'm not sure if I even know where to begin to install a window-mount antenna - where to run the wires, do I have to remove headliner, etc.
Can anyone help? TIA.

I'd like to replace my antenna since my stock one snapped off right at the base and thus I have no reception whatsoever. What options do I have? What kind of antenna is the "fubar" type? I could go with a stock one but I also am inclined to think there are antenna's with better reception than the Honda OEM ones.

I believe he meant the "Fuba" brand ("fubar" is an abbreviation for something else, haha). Fuba's are the kind that came on the VW GTi's, some other 80's german cars stock. There's smaller versions now too. Google searching for "Fuba antenna" will give you some pics.

To put the original size "Fuba" (I believe it was called the "BetaD Flex" model) you can use the rear hatch window squirter. You will need to radius the hole just a little bit with a dremmel/drill. Not that big a deal, you don't add any "new" holes to the roof, and it looks better back there than on the front edge of the roof.
You will loose the rear squirter (probably not a biggie either). However, the pain in the *** is that there is a thin beam going across the rear of the 2nd gen CRX roof near the top edge of the hatch. Exactly underneath the squirter hole. You will need to cut out a small patch for the bottom of the Fuba BetaD to allow the wire and threaded portion to fit through. If you take off that interior piece of of plastic that runs the width of the roof, between the sunroof (assuming you have an Si) and hatch, you will see what I mean.
BTW - "fubar" is a military slang that stands for F'ed up beyond all repair/recognition... I don't think you want that

This is exactly what I wanted to do if you could do a write up on how you did it that would be great. So how does the rear squirter come out exactly I tried to get it out on my 2 parts cars but either bent the roof up slightly or broke the thing badly. I just want to get rid of the side antenna the window mount one sound kind of nice also I know there are one that just stick inside the windows so if anything you could stick it to the top of the hatch or in the little glass area in the back window.

Its been quite awhile since I did it... If I recall, it helped to talk the inner plastic panel off, that way you can see that the squirter is "keyed" with a tab or two. You have to twist it to get one tab at a time free. Not sure if that makes sense, if I can find my old squirter in the parts box I can confirm it all. But I definitely remember this was the easier part of it all.
Just a note, if you do get around to replacing your antenna in the stock location go and disconnect it from your radio, follow the wire, it will be tied up in about 4 different spots, THE IMPORTANT PART, tie a long string to the end of the wire before pulling it up through the frame. Forgetting that step can costs you many hours of trying to feed it back down the stock hole, I've been there.
