As per Oct. '01 Motor Trend issue, page 30.
"Acura officials now say that we will get the hot 215-220 HP RSX Type R after all as an ultimate road car alternative to the subtler 200HP RSX Tpe S. Look for the Type R, replete with supper-stiff suspension, wider tires, and a big rear wing, and such luxuries as the sunroof delated to save weight, within two years."
They failed to mention that out R's will not get the JDM engine, wheels and interior trim and other cool stuff; as usuall.
Also more good news, the Civic Si is coming to US this year... they say it has 160HP 2.0L DOHC engine, but I'll bet anything its really a 1.7 DOHC engine.
Good news for theives too, apperantly all those cool Type R and Si parts will fit nicely into a Gen 7 civic.
-Kamil, who's Integra was stolen last year.
I hope this isn't old news, I've been out for a few days.

Has motortrend been known to lie in the past, this news is making my day.
Motortrend is a reliable auto-source. But it helps to hear it from the folks at Acura too.
If it does come hopefully it will be when my IS lease is up b/c then I could join the type R family again. But I wont hold my breath. See it to believe it.
The automotive press doesn't "lie," they just sometimes interpret what they think as truth as something it is not. Quite well documented.

I am having a hard time getting past the suspension issue. I really like the G3 ITR's suspension, and I'm suspecting it's going to take a lot of good improvements in other areas to make up for the basic design of the G4 ITR's suspension.
I have faith in Honda engineers.
Don't forget, however, that they have the drive wheels in the more proper location and a considerably better weight distribution. That really changes the dynamics of the car and make the importance of the front suspension less critical since the front and rear have more equal roles in handling.
There is some fine German automobiles that are known for their handling and strong chasis design, that use the same MacPherson suspension.

It's silly to speculate the options USDM RSX-R, but unless it's got complete JDM goodies (bigger brakes, 220 HP engine, etc.) I think it will not be that much better (if at all) than a DC2-R. Gan San only got 1 sec better at Tsukuba circuit in a DC5-R over DC2-R.
I hope we get it, but I'm suspecting we'll prolly get fux0rd and get the "Aussie" spec ITR
yoshi - who'll keep his hopes up for now *crosses fingers*

DAMN THAT SUCKS!!!!!! WE ARE JUST LIKE MUSTANGS NOW.. TYPE-R'S ARE GOING TO BE EVERYWHERE

Yes! A three yr lease on the s-type..then a rollover to finance the R... hehe.. maybe i can live without my stolen teg after all...
speaking of which - if im offered to buy back my TOTALLY stripped car, should i take it? is it worth anything?? prolly not, huh?

I hope not alot of people buy the new Type R. That MacPhearson Strut thing is driving alot of people away and I like that. I seriously don't think that Honda, A race-oriented/driven company just threw on the suspension and say hey it's new, it's different, and it's easier to package. Just my 0.000000000000002.

<----Thinks back to 1999 when "rumors" came flooding in on the Type R being released again for 2000 MY. Man if I had a dollar for everyone who said "it aint going to happen!"
With the Acura selling all the Type Rs that were brought over here. And with all the other manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon bringing over their "higher performance/handling" cars....why would Honda not bring over the RSX-R? Making money is making money, and I think Honda knows it would sell...especially if they only bring over about 1000 of them.
Just my $.02

IMO, honda only brought a limited number of ITRs here because they KNEW that it wouldnt be all sold...like according to "automotive engineering" magazine, Japanese manufacturers are known to have a low surplus of cars...cause with cars standing around, they lose money....and time....the ITR isnt everyone's bag, some people wouldnt buy an ITR even if they had like 3 sitting on the lot....priorties...
anyway...should be cool if the RSX-R is gonna head overhere, however i think we are gonna get the ozzy spec one....we never get good stuff usually..
Maybe more competition here will cause the american performance cars to be more refined and compete better with the euro and japanese vehicles.

Very good point... I think I'm begining to lose my automotive edge.
Damn job... it takes up all my brain bandwidth.
Can I upgrade the ram on that?
.
It took Honda 50 plus years to perfect it's High-Specific Output motors and Reputation as a Race Engineer. You really think with in a couple of years American Automakers could ever compete with that.

American companies in general in the past use to be dominant in many things....back in the day " made in USA" was somthing to look up to and expect high quality from. Now, in the automotive world, that isnt always the case, now the imports appear to have more respect and what not. Back in the day my dad once told me, that things that said " made in japan" was similar to "made in china" today. Because people didnt trust the name yet. Japan doesnt have a wealth of natural resources historically so it's gonna base it's economy on high-tech industrial development and manufacturing, using material from other nations. Hence over time, they became more and more advanced because they had to be able to compete. While we were sleeping basically.. We still make a lot of good stuff, but so do other countries.....Everything is moving...when you stop advancing, your gonna be passed and essentially go backwards.
thats just my thought on the subject which is totally getting off topic...
anyway...
any price confimation for the new ITR? 26k-ish?
I hope the RSX Type R isn't limited in any way. In fact why don't they make only Type R's. To everyone who will say "you'll ruin the whole point of the type r concept", I would rather have an incredible car (even if it's common) than a rare car that is HUNTED DOWN by thieves. Stupid fuggin' thieves...
