Default bolts that mate downpipe to cat question...

i recently put my stock header back on and managed to lose the afore-mentioned bolts, so i went to acura and ordered new nuts and bolts....this is where the problem comes in: the bolts do not work.

it's hard to put into words what i mean...toward the top of the bolt, there is a large circular flat piece, and a little ways down the bolt toward the end, there is another spot where the bolt flares out, which is what is causing my problem. i cannot see how this bolt would ever fit in there, not to mention the bolts i lost looked much longer and had a different design....i know i pointed out the right parts at the dealership because i went back and double checked. as a temporary solution, i just ran two long thin bolts and the factory nuts, but this is causing a lot of vibration and rattling due to the fact that i can't put the springs over the bolts.

i will try and provide pics tomorrow, any help from any of you guys would be great....

That photo is obviously not the a stock setup. In fact, on the stock setup, the springs are on the cat. side, not the header. The flared portion that is giving you trouble passes through the holes in the cat. flange, and then tightens against the stock manifold's flange with a nut on the other side.

well, that's exactly the problem, the flared portion of the bolt will not pass through the hole in the cat's flange...i am aware that pic is not a stock setup, i took it out of a thread on turbo ITR's, i just wanted to illustrate the area i was speaking of....
anyway, for whatever reason, the stock bolts aren't functioning correctly, anyone else have this problem?

IIRC i did this on my accord...

The part that flares out does NOT go through the cat, it comes in from the downpipe side, the spring sits between the part that flares out and the head.

ie: put the spring on the bolt, then slide the bolt (as the pic shows) from the downpipe to the cat, then compress the spring to get the nut on. the flared part doesn't go through the hole on the cat.

I'm not sure what the Accord's setup is like, but that is not the way the stock Integra setup bolts-up. The bolts definitely go in from the cat. side, and the smaller flare (near the threads) passes through the holes in the cat. flange and tightens against the manifold's flange with nuts on the other side.
