Default 5th gen bumper "damper". In front of the hood latch. WTF is it.

And why is it so heavy?

If you don't know wtf I'm talking about, pop the hood, and look at the back of the bumper support in front of the hood latch.

Its, big, black, round, and is about 10 inches long.

Saw that just the other day. My best guess would be it has something to do with safety for example in a front end collision the roller would allow the engine to move out of the engine compartment therefore keeping it out of the drivers lap. I don't know just a guess

BTW My name is Matt and this is my first post on this board. My wife and I own a 2001 Prelude, stock for now.

its not to big, and I always figured out with its location that it may have to do with airbags somehow, I never **** with it.

My friend took his out. It probably weighs 10 lbs. There are no wires or anything that go to it.

This piece is for dampening the car vibration. I removed mine, only because it got in the way of my intercooler

seriously, I think that's the only thing it's for. Its a decently heavy metal rod, mounted to a bracket on either side with rubber.... IIRC it's 4 10 mils and it's out

Yeah, it's a vibration damper. I took mine out - if you feel a difference, well, I don't believe you. :D
