we use the y8 or z6 gasket for the A6 all the time. better working with a metal gasket than the old paper style( i think they changed them now to all metal)

y8 and z6 gasket will increase comression as well.

so you just use the y8 gasket straight from the package or do you enlarge the coolant passages to match the a6 HG? i dont know if it makes any real difference or not...but i "port matched" my y8 headgasket to match the a6.

i dont know if you have to modify it...i did on mine though. there are like 4 or so spots that are small holes on the y8 HG and are wider slots on the a6 HG. i believe that on the y8 the middle layer has just a hole and the 2 outer layers have the slots...i dont know why. but i just used a dremel and slotted out the middle layer in a few spots to match the a6 HG. i would guess that you dont have to do this though...i just did for the hell of it. otherwise all the holes line up in the right spots.
