Default Addition of a sub-belt to a 4-point harness

I have a Willans 4-point that I went and decided to try and make a 5-point, and I've found a few sub-belts of the "add-on" variety. I'm looking at the picture though, and I'm not entirely sure how it would be attached to my current setup. I have the latch-type belt, not the camlock, and it looks like this one:

Would sort of go between the two latching parts. Just to be clear, by latch I mean like an OEM buckle, I don't know if there's another term for that type. Anyway, would something like that work, and would instructors (for HPDEs) be more comfortable with something like that over a 4-point (keep in mind it'll be with stock seats, so the sub-belt won't be going straight down by your crotch)?

HPDE generally only requires a stock seatbelt assembly in the car. If you put true race belts in for yourself-do it for the instructor too. As to an add-on anti-sub belt, I would think that you can use any brand you like as long as the metal connector fits properly on the latch unit. I know that my Simpson 5-point Latch lock works with parts from M&R and Crow. The actual latching components are based on MIL spec parts and most belt makers use the same pieces for the LatchLock type.
I would not attempt to improvise this if using a stock seatbelt since there are other things factored into that design.
YES-the unit you show in the picture will work with the brands I mentioned and probably the Willans as well.

I'm in the slow and not-so-steady process of changing things after I sort of reach my limit with them at HPDEs. I'm getting tired of holding onto the steering wheel through corners, and I don't have the money for seats yet, so I thought I'll do harnesses for now. I will also definitely be getting one for the instructor as well, so that's not an issue. I'll most likely go with a straight-up 5-point for the instructor, as I think it'd be kinder for them to have the better equipment, but I'd like one for myself, just for the whole submarining issue.

Without a roll bar you do not want to run a harness.

Yep, I know, already taken care of.

Meanwhile, I found this...interesting. I'm not sure how it should be dealt with exactly, but it looks very unsafe, with the possibility of the belts sliding off the shoulders:

Whatever. Something else important I'd like answered is the issue of using a 5-point with the stock seats. Opinions?

I cross the shoulder belts behind the seat for now, until I have a proper seat to use. This will keep them from sliding anywhere.

im not quite sure what you mean by this, but something doesn sound right about this.

ssc, i dont tihnk you can add a sub belt effectively to the 4pt. its possible, but youd have to make sure it has its own buckle or lock of some sort, otherwise, itd be rather hard to slip into if you think about it. its designed not to work with a sub belt, i wouldnt try to redesign it. if this is what you had in mind all along, sorry, but i dont tihnk it was a good idea.

I cross the belts into an 'X' right off the harness bar before heading forward over the seatback and shoulders. A little trick I learned from one of the local race-fab shops. It works well for me.

Tyson, I hadn't planned on that initially, I made the decision well after I bought it from you. The ones I'm looking at are for the latch-type design I think, and it LOOKS like it'd work, but I'm not sure. I'm emailing Willans to see what they think about it, just to be safe. If it doesn't work, I can always sell it again, so no worries.

If that is the style you have then yes you can add that 5th point. Those are either called Latch-link or the goose neck. If you want I have one lying around that I could part with. Its a red one though but exactly like the one in the picture, and never used.

Looks like if thats your belt in the picture your running a Cam lock and you would ahve to go get a 5th belt for a cam lock. The one pictured in the original post is for a goose-neck and not a cam lock.
