Default timing jumped a tooth

what would be symptoms of the timing belt jumping a tooth and throwing the cam timing off?

When the cam jumped forward on my old '82 VW, it ran like crap. It was not subtle...

Above about 2k rpm it really sucked. But I think that depends on which direction it skipped.

well mine idles like crap.. sounds like a v8 with wild cams... but after 2500 rpm it runs smooth... so i really dont know whats going on.. i havent had time to lift the valve cover and check the cam gear timing marks.

When I said it depended on which direction it skipped, that's exactly what I meant. It never happened to me, but I believe if the cam skipped back it would do what you're saying.

It's just pointless for me to guess from here until you check your cam timing. If it's OK then we can try to think of something else. You brought up cam timing in the first place, as if you have some reason to believe it's messed up?

well i asked that because i dont think its ignition because all ignition components checked out. cam timing was the other logical thing that came to mind. i was just curious to see if anyone else experienced the same problems/symptoms as me.

i'll check the cam timing tonight and let you know. thanks
