5th GEN W/O VTEC??? LOOK INSIDE!!!!!!
You guys ever wonder what our 5th gen ludes feel like without vtec? Well, I'm experiencing that right now. My car won't engage into vtec!!!! I can feel the power curve just drop after 5k, and my engine just dies about 500RPM before redline. I'm taking it to the dealer see what they say.
Nightmare!!!
VTEC doesn't engage until coolant temp hit norm, but I'm sure you know that.
Is your check engine light on? VTEC is disabled for some engine trouble codes.
Sounds like the pin that that locks the rockers together to follow the big cam lobe isn't getting oil.

did you guys check your oil to make sure the level is up.
Is that right JG? Did you dispense with the VTEC for lightest possible valvetrain mass?

Oh don't worry about JG. I think he's running normally aspirated 13s without VTEC.

Oh well.
I figured you had one of those setups that did away with VTEC. Those aren't streetable though as power starts at 8K or something.
I figured you had one 'cause you did a smiley face when you said you had no VTEC.

Yea...I checked my oil level. It's normal, and temp is normal too. I tested vtec even after my 10-15 min drive to the dealer, still no VTEC

Interestingly, in other parts of the world (Japan & UK at least) they've offered the G5 from the start w/ a 2.0L non-vtec motor. Talk about all show and no go...

well, my the company messed up the cams when they ground them the first time. Don't go to Reeds cam in Atlanta, they know jack about VTEC.
So I'm sending them to WebCam like Warren told me to in the beginning (That's what I get for not listening...
) and we're gonna have crazy VTEC power now.
Think Crower stage three with more duration...

Damn man you might be able to bust 12's now with slicks.

I'd guess 13.4's@106. Keep in mind, this car weighs allof if not more than it did when it rolled off honda's floor....

K, i took my car to the dealer, and this morning they're giving me the run around. They're telling me that that the vtec solinoid i working, and giving me two choices. Pick up the car, pay 70 dollars and get an oil change, which i just did les than 300 miles ago always using reg 10w-30 since day one, or authorize them another 2 hours of inspection time paying them 70 dollars/hr. What am i to do?!?!? PLEASE HELP!
never go to dealers! unless it's a used car and only covered under their warrenty. find a reputible import shop and take it there.
I found out what the problem was. To the left side of the engine bay, right next to the left shock tower when you're looking at the engine, there are a bunch of wires. One of the wires had been cut. After I got my car back and paid $96.93, for one hour of inspection and an oil change, they told me that it worked, which kicked in at 6k. I insisted that it kicked in at around 5k-5.2k and that you should be able to touch redline with nothing stopping you. They're like, no it's running fine, kicks in at 6k and a few hundred RPM before redline, that's the rev limiter. I'm thinking in my head, that's BS! Well, I guess I'm going to have to pay my parents back for that $96.93. But Vtec is working fine now because I fixed that wire. But my dad got mad and made me take out my AEM intake and my Upper Front Strut, even tho it had nothing to do with it.
That's some bullshit. VTEC kicks in on mine at 5k on the nose. If it is working properly, unless they #1. added a VTEC controller #2. reprogrammed the ECU while it was there, it should STILL kick in at 5k. Period. Also, redline/fuel cutoff should NOT have changed unless for reason #2, or a new ignition w/ rev limiter pills.
Take it back, and demand that they fix it, and fix it correctly. That's BULLSHIT.

Ah-hem. *cough* *cough*
VTEC kick-in is throttle-angle dependant. May depend of a few other variables as well. Wide open throttle gives you the bad-*** cam lobe at 5K.
At half throttle mine kicks in around 6K. I guess Honda's logic is to save some gas on the small cam and save the big cam for ***** out WOT.
At partial throttle, I can go to redline without ever switching the the big cam. I dunno why anyone would want to do this however.
