question for 5th gen 5 speed Prelude owners
I ask the 5th gen drivers because it is my understanding their H22A4s have longer gear ratios than the 4th geners H22A1.
Uhhh I'll try to make this quick.

Okay so like i'm not too sure if the P13 ECU I got has the stock fuel cut at 7,700. I've read due to tach inaccuracy, you guys hit fuel cut at an indicated 8,100.
Since I don't know if my tach is inaccurate or not, nor do I know if I have stock rev limiter, I've been shifting at an indicated 7,500 to be safe. First to second gear shifts at 7,500 RPM put me out of VTEC range (just a tick below 5K) then VTEC then kicks in again around 5,100.
My question to you is, when you shift at redline or fuel-cut, you stay in VTEC, right? I don't think Honda is stupid enough to engineer ratios that put you off of the big cam lobe when shifting at redline.
When I do shift at an indicated 8,000 rpm, the next gear does start off on the big cam, so I'm hauling *** all the way. This is the way it's supposed to be, right?
I'm hoping my tach is just as inaccurate as yours and my fuel cut lays just a bit beyond 8K... where my tach has yet to travel.
What do you think?
Thanks for input.
Oh by the way, yeah I could read my accurate RPMs on a V-AFC. I've got one sitting right here next to me, but I don't want that piggy back computer installed until I get a dyno baseline on my current setup.

Even in my 4th gen you have to MAX out 1st to keep it in high cam in second.. Shift right before fuel cut (but you don't know if you have one).. I have to get second into the red to stay on the cam when I shift to 3rd.. This is when I am not power shifting, im doing smooth track shifts..
Thank Corey!
S**t if your close ratios still have you off the big cam for redline shifting...
Now I just need to hear from a next generation driver. Comon guys I know you're out there...

Sometimes I fall out of VTEC and sometimes I stay in it. It depends on how well I'm doing that day.
Oh and by the way......you can install your VAFC and leave it at the initial settings and everything will be as it is before you put it in. So you don't have to worry about it changing things if you want a baseline dyno. Mine's installed and still at stock settings.

I go to right before fuel cut in every gear and stay in vtec the hole time. Although i've noticed in 2nd to 3rd shift I don't have to push it as far to stay in vtec...the big lobe just stay's in without dropping out, even if it goes below 5500. No vafc.
Thanks guys. Still need some more opinions from other 5g drivers.
Still unclear if you need to shift at fuel cut to stay on VTEC, or does shifting at redline suffice?

i lowered my VTEC x-over to 4700rpm and smoothed out the fuel. nice smooth curve up to 8000rpm (modified redline)
i never drop off the big cam unless short change my shifts
